I think that's a pretty big assumption based on one 19-year-old OHL season (which Coots never had) and a handful of professional games. Remember, Couturier was a QMJHL scoring champion. I'm not saying either is your 2C, but appointing Laughton seems a bit premature. - jmatchett383
True but I didn't appoint, I simply made a bold projection |

I would love to see Couts get a true shot at using his offensive side. - jak521
My bigger issue with Berube isn't the lack of OZ starts for Couts. It's the line juggling. He had a couple of games with Simmonds on his wing. I do agree he should have been given 10 games or so.
But playing Devil's advocate, did Couts really show you much so far this year offensively? |

Okay. So what makes you think that Laughton will be a better 2C fit over Couturier based on their careers to date? |

Whether or not you liked Green Day (was never a huge fan), they definitely changed their sound after the first 2 full-lengths. The first LP is fairly W.C. punk, Dookie is still sorta punk, but watered down, and then...the rest. - jmatchett383
Yeah, they changed for the worse. I always found them irritating though, even the early stuff. 90's punk just ain't my bag. |

From what I've seen (keep in mind this limited and purely hypothetical) I think they're even in defensive play and face offs, I just think Laughton appears to be stronger on the puck, and plays with more edge. |

Well, that's fine. I just hate when bands get success, and then change what they do to try and sustain that success. It works for the radio, but rarely for the fans who got them there. AFI may be the best example of this. They basically poop on all of their fans when they had their first real hit. |

I don't think they're even in defensive play. And I think Couturier, if used in a more offensive role, is a better offensive player (edge to Laughton in goal-scoring). I also don't know if Laughton in "stronger on the puck" against 25-year-olds because he hasn't really had the opportunity to show it. |

Yeah, not a fan at all. By the way, has anybody woken Green Day up yet? It's been a few weeks. |

I think it is fair to say they want him to produce more. I think it is also fair to judge him based in part on how you use him. In other words, press him to do more but don't punish him for not doing as much as he could. - TheGreat28
Him and Read have produced fairly well in my opinion considering just how buried they have been with defensive responsibilities.
I understand that and that's okay. Don't call him out publicly then. |

That's the thing. The fans that got them there were punk kids. And once they rode them to the top, they began to cater to the pop world. If you like them, that's fine. But they still changed their music style once they got "big." |

Craig Button has referred to Laughton as a Peter Forsberg lite |

The problem with lack of OZ starts is that it is incredibly tough to produce offensively that way. He was right there next to Schenn in points last year, despite playing against the top line and starting in the OZ almost everytime. |

I'm alright with bands changing their style, it's hard (sometimes impossible) to keep recapturing the magic when you're not young, new, and/or raw anymore. That said, a lot of times "changing style" really means "making lazy crap". |
