I think, deep down, Craig Berube would like to deep six Luke Schenn.

Probably.

If Lauridsen and Manning have to enter the lineup due to injury, does L. Schenn move up the totem pole?

Luckily it's only his 7th season in the League, or I might start to worry he is what he is. The growing pains of a young dman.

- PLindbergh31

Yeah, we should trade for Bogosian, who is only in his 6th season. Lots of upside and potential.

Big difference is that Bogosian has more tools in his tool chest than Schenn does.

Should they be trying not to win games?
- MJL

They should be trying to get Couturier into more favourable offensive positions and getting him away from such heavy defensive lifting duties.

But that may mean more lost games and orange tears for the diehards.

Not sure about that. Schenn's tool chest seems pretty stocked.

So Schenn, who is the same age as Bogo, is a finished product and will never improve past where he is, but BoGo is far from a finished product and is going to have some huge explosion in his game?

If the other lines would become more reliable defensively, maybe that can happen.

Nope. But Schenn is limited by his hockey sense and skating. He's had a change of scenery, and he's still the same inconsistent player with the same issues he had as a Leaf. Bogosian is a very good skater, who has good offensive ability. He's been up and down over his career, but he's had some injury issues and he's been with the same organization his entire career-one that has a spotty record in development.

I'd role the dice on Bogosian being more likely to progress into a better player than Schenn at this juncture, simply because he's got more to work with.

Well, VL will be back soon to help take some of the defensive burden. Can't see how he won't help Couts.

Far more important to try and sneak into the playoffs this year than give Couturier more offensive opportunities and at the same time see if others can take on some of the defensive heavy lifting. Why develop Couturier's offensive game when he can be a top shutdown center for a team that will be cannon fodder for good teams come the playoffs?

Briere is having a good start with the Avs.

Holmgren's pecker is oozing.

For some reason, I see you practicing these one liners into a hair brush in front of a mirror before you post them.

Technically the Flyer defense is locked up for another year past this one if you exclude MDZ and Schultz.

With Coburn, Schenn and Grossmann UFA's the following year.

I expect management wont sit around idle for 2 years, but I don't really want any of the prospects from D up here even next season. Will be curious to see what moves are made, if any.

I'm not a fan of Berube. I don't think they're a playoff team this year, and I'm fine with that. But use it as a developmental year.

Don't publicly poke Couturier and say he needs to produce more, then saddle him with 70% D-zone starts. Don't say you're going to give Schenn a shot at top line LW and then move him 5 periods later. Think long term.

Yes, it's swell that they have played better. They're still a flawed team, that should be looking more at the future than the present. I'm ecstatic that they seem to finally understand the value of holding onto draft picks. I love their last draft class-first one I can recall that they didn't draft a goon or energy guy and placed skill at a higher premium than grit for the entire draft.

I'm with you. I don't think Berube has a great team to work with, but some of the things he does is puzzling. I guess we can just say he's the coach he knows more than we do. But where is the fun in that? I will give Berube solid marks last year for righting the ship. But early this year he's lost me.
