IMO we are gonna need someone like him at 26-27 years old when we are pushing for the playoffs.

They won't make it too far with Zadarov and Ristolainen leading the way at 21-22 years old.

Now I know that higher up's say one thing and do another but TM did say there are no untouchables but if you want Girgensons, Risto, and Myers you're going to have to overpay.

All the talks IMO have been coming in not going out. I see it like this.

I think some of us overvalue Myers. Mantha was a picked in the 20's and he's non a starter. Evidently Larkin picked 15 is hard to get from Detroit. Myers has regressed over the last few years in his play, has improved some under Nolan but has nothing that truly defines him besides his size. He's not exceptionally strong in the D zone, he's not exceptional offensively, he isn't a #1 PP Dman on a decent team let alone a good team. He has no grit. He is big, skates great, has good hands, and has an incredible reach and has solid offensive skills and plays the right side. That should be worth some team's top 3 prospect +. Not to mention the Sabres have paid him a lot of his contract upfront so that makes the Sabres want more too. His cap space is 5.5 but a team is not going to have to pay him that much each year because the Sabres already paid him a lot of his money. Tough call on what to get for him.

My guess is Hodgson, Stewart, and Stafford are moved long before Myers is unless they get (and I hate to use him as an example but) a Pronger for Shanahan deal.

Is he the problem on this team right now? No, no he isn't. The forward play has been the worst I've seen in the almost 30 yrs of watching hockey. Many times thus far he has been the only competent skater out there.

As a team we have a -15 goal differential.

Myers is -1 despite playing the most minutes by far on the team. Out of all the defensemen we generate the most shots while he's on the ice and it's not close.

Basically, when he's on the ice so far the other team is scoring a lot less, and we are producing more shots or offense. He's been very good to start this season.

The narrative that he's bad in his own end isn't true at this point

I don't think he's bad, I was against trading him until maybe last summer but I just don't think he has much more of a higher ceiling playing on the Sabres and I think with the Sabres depth on D if he can bring a valuable young forward then deal him.

With Ehrhoff leaving, it's risky to make a move like that. Especially since Murray has stated he doesn't want a 5-7 year rebuild

I'm ambivalent towards Myers, take him or leave him. It's says a lot that he's the best player on this sad team.
