The Sabres can't get Mantha because Detroit didn't want him as part of the package. Yeah, that is what I have stated.
I'm ambivalent towards Myers, take him or leave him. It's says a lot that he's the best player on this sad team. - GilPerreault11
Agreed its sad, however to think he's reached his ceiling at 24 on the worst team in the league is kind of silly IMO. This is probably why he won't be moved just yet or at all. We really don't know how good he is. We also shouldn't sell low. |

Totally. Someone mentioned this a page or two back, but in 2-3 years, he's going to be our "veteran".....with a reasonable cap hit......playing 25-30 minutes a night and no where near a contract year. there's a TON Of value in that alone. He doesnt need to be Pronger or Chara.....just a guy that can play 1/2 a game for his price is going to be a real nice thing to have when Risto and Zadorov are first and second year NHL-ers. |

Risto is already on his 2nd yr though. In 2 or 3 years Risto will also be a vet with 4-5 yrs of experience. |

Myers has nothing that truly defines him besides his size. He's not exceptionally strong in the D zone, he's not exceptional offensively, he isn't a #1 PP Dman on a decent team let alone a good team. He has no grit. He is big, skates great, has good hands, and has an incredible reach and has solid offensive skills and plays the right side. - GilPerreault11
See Chara from 97-02 when he was playing for the Isles and Sens. I think we need to keep him throughout his contract, at least until his NTC is about to kick in. Don't want to trade him for someone like Yakapov (which I have heard mentioned) and have it end up like the Chara for Yashin trade. Wouldn't mind a trade for someone like Mantha, but the huge problem is not only that Detroit doesn't want to part with him, but where is the salary going to be included to keep them under the cap?

The year after they let Chara go, the Sens ended up going to the Stanley Cup Finals. Their problems after that really didn't have much to do with Chara being gone. |

The floor is 51 million. Currently Buffalo's cap payroll is 58 million, so they don't need to take salary back. |

They may not need to take salary back for their own purposes, but they may need to take it back to make it work for the other party, depending on who that is. |

You don't think looking back they would have preferred to sign Chara instead of Redden? |

In hindsight, sure, but even then, it didn't kill them. They were in "win now" mode, and with the way Chara was playing, he was a liability. Chara didn't really become the dominant figure he was until his 3rd season in Boston. |

Gotcha, thanks. I read it wrong and thought you were referring to Buffalo being compliant. My bad.
Maybe they dump Kyle Quincy back on the Sabres? |

I like Pysyk. I think he's going to be a really solid contributor for us for a long time. He's never going to be an overly flashy guy, but he's going to be able to play a nice, quiet game. There will probably be a lot of games over his career where we wonder whether or not he even played because we didn't notice him, but that's not a bad thing when you're talking about a defenseman. |

IMO he's nothing special I would trade him just like I would trade Zadorov, I don't see what all the hype is about him. |

The one thing Pysyk has that's so much better than pretty much every other defenseman in our organization, is a great outlet pass. That alone will make this team not look quite so terrible.
Not everyone is going to be a superstar. It's silly to even think that way. You need guys like him on your team in order to be successful. If the team was filled with nothing but exciting, super skilled guys, it would be an all star team and it's just not realistic.
The teams that do well year after year are the teams that have a nice mix of guys. Matt Greene isn't a flashy guy either, but he's won 2 Cups.
I'm also sick of everyone being traded. Can't we just keep a few guys? I'm over getting draft picks and other people's throw aways at this point. It's time to take the talent we've drafted over the last few years and start actually using it as more than just an asset to acquire another draft pick. |

Never said he was asuperstar and not even close to one, nobody on this team should be off the trade block, do I think it's a mistake to move Myers, yes I do and i'm not a fan of him.
If Pysyk get's you a goal scorer that's what we need and all offers should be listened to. |

That goal scorer isn't going to be very effective when we can't get out of our own end because the rest of our defense doesn't know how to make a good pass. |

It's gotten too far, other than stewart and staff and maybe hodgson we have strong candidates to build around. Also many of our prospects are leaders of their respective or previous teams. Let them play together and learn for guys like gio and gorges |

1 guy doesn't make the D any better, just like 1 guy can't score all by himself. This team is still 4 years away even if they get a good pick next year and that won't matter either. |
