Sbisa seemed to me (from memory) like a very well-rounded player at the time. I seem to remember his being fairly physical with a lot of upper-body strength, fairly good defensive instincts, and some raw offensive upside (for a rookie, not a vet).

He played well at the start, kind of hit the rookie wall, ended up getting benched and was in and out of the line up.

I think each player is different and some can handle being thrown into the fire and some can't. I think the overall point is that spending too much time in the minors isn't going to hurt the prospect, but being brought up too early can hurt a prospect.

I've watched the Phantoms games and I can tell you Ghost has been pushed around a bit and has made some positioning mistakes. He's learning when to push the play and when to play back. In college he was given more freedom because the team needed his scoring and creativity.

Tied game in the 3rd isn't really a good time to take a risk. That's exactly what happened in the last game and the Phantoms allowed a grade A scoring chance because of it.

- PhillySportsGuy

I watched the first two and I didn't see him getting pushed around nor did I see him make a bunch of positioning mistakes. Of course if you're going to look for them you'll find them with every Dman in the NHL. Maybe you should watch the Flyers D if you're looking for defensemen being out worked and making positioning mistakes. You'll find your fill right there.

Also in college, his natural skill was able to overcome any deficiencies he had. Those will be exploited in the AHL, and would only be further exploited at the NHL. I'd much rather he learn playing against top guys like Akeson who are 2nd/3rd line NHLers.

Sbisa was also playing 4th line wing for some games.

This organization imho deserves to have reality shoved up its ass for the mistakes in management. The players have been turned over at an insane rate, and the blame shouldn't fall on a guy who has been mediocre his whole career but is being asked for more.

He also couldn't buy a goal. I think he ended up with 8 assists, and despite having a nice, hard shot, didn't have any goals.

The third game was his worst. It was the team's worst (Although Laughton was very good). The play I'm referencing occurred in the third game.

I think Murray has gotten a reputation of being able to work with and develop young defensemen over the years, going back to his Washington days.
- johndewar

Dan Boyle, Muzzin and Martinez also blossomed the moment they were freed from his yoke. And he didn't exactly teach JJ how to get his poop together, and really hesitated to put Voynov in. His track-record w/ young forwards is pretty spotty, too.

He gets too much credit for Lombardi drafting Doughty, tbh.

I agree with you on all accounts. But that still is not reason to pluck Ghost out of the AHL and throw him into the fire.
- jmatchett383

When is that time? I thought it was when you were better than the players playing in front of you.

I want them to wait as well. I think playing in this clusterfrak will hurt him. Offense is not as big a problem as team defense. Bringing up an offensive d-man who CLEARLY needs to work on his defensive game, and put on ten pounds, and putting him in this defensive nightmare is not going to be productive in any way.

I don't really want to bring him into this current cluster(frank) either. This team offers little support to its defenseman and he'd likely take MDZ spot next to Schenn. Not sure how pulling the puck out of his net 3 times per game is going to help him.

Muzzin - spent 2.5 years in AHL.
Voynov - about 2.5 years in AHL
Duncan Keith - 2 years in AHL

Why can't Gostisbiere just play in the AHL? Just let te kid playin every situation and once he is ready and the team is ready with the minutes for him then bring him up.

Also remember he is coming from college hockey where they play less games a season.

OnIceSV% for Schenn is still sub .800, lol. Man, he really did something wrong in a previous life.

The third game or all of the games because I have time on my hands to find the one play that concerns you across three games that you think warrants him not being on the NHL roster.

Also I kinda sucked myself into this. I still think he shouldn't see the NHL until christmas.

How many people on here would complain if Holmgren was GM and brought up Gostisbiere at this time? Who would say he is panicking and not letting our prospect develop correctly?

I thought the refs absolutely screwed us last night. The first goal was goaltender interference, the penalty leading to the second was a joke and it was a nice interception by the ref to set up the 3 on 2 that netted their third goal. Sure, they outplayed us, but not to the tune of 4-0. It's impossible to beat that team and the refs. The fix was in last night in Chicago.
