Douglas Murray fetched 2 2nd rounders. Defensive depth is paramount for a Cup contender (see: Bartulis, Parent, Krajicek). We could probably unload 1-2 of our defenders for some B-level prospects and/or 2nd/3rd round picks. - jmatchett383

Ugh, glad I missed last night's game. Heavy drinking may be required tonight. A season is always successful if you beat the Penguins every time you play them...

no but it would have given him time to improve on the little aspects of his game that lacking while building some confidence rather than get thrown in head first and sink or swim esp in a poopty place like toronto |

Gus got a raw deal, which I think we can all agree on.
If only he'd been rushed into the NHL. - jmatchett383
really pissed about the Gagne and Gus handling for starters |

I heard about this.
Was this a Canadian? Or did ISIS follow through?
IF it was the latter...who picks on Canada. Seriously. That's like bullying that one 1st grader that everyone in 3rd grade thinks is cool and genuinely likes. You (frank) with that little dude, all the big dudes better gang up.
That's all I gotta say about that. - Giroux_Is_God
I think this is the reason.

And most of our guys are not really crap. The parts are worth more than the whole. The issue will be contract / length in some cases though. |

I'm ok with the prospects cutting their teeth against men in the AHL (or going back to their Jr teams). Also, I have very little confidence in Berube properly managing their roles and icetime. I could see Ghost coming in and getting Akeson'd -- Berube might bench him and say: "He needs to simplify his game and learn how to be a third pairing defensive d-man before he can play the role he's actually much better suited to play."
Also, I think many are reaching for anything that might improve the club or be more entertaining to watch than the current product. Personally, I don't think bringing up prospects is going to do much toward either end, and may end up being counter productive to the young players' development. I'm fine with the prospects being where they are, where they'll get big minutes and hopefully gain more size, hone their skills and gain more confidence...things that will likely benefit them once they make the big show. |

We can't really know either way whether a player benefits from extended AHL time or is harmed from being "rushed" because causality is impossible to prove. That being said, keeping a guy like Ghost in the AHL with the NHL team the way it is seems like the safe move which I vote for. - NickTheKid87
We can't, but Hextall can. He believes rushing a player is more likely to hurt than help, and that's all that really matters. |

Yep, absolutely will. That's why I said maybe 1-2 can be moved. I'd keep Coburn and Streit (sorry 2Real) and take the best return offered for the rest. |

I dont think he needs the ahl tonteach him not to blindly pass the puck, skate faster, turn better, not to go for an ill advised hit in the neutral zone that leads to an oddman rush etc. |

They absolutely could. The problem is, your defense next year is going to be noticeably worse without them. |

Completely agree!
Let's face it, we're Philly, so the chances of the ping pong balls falling in our favor are like .000000000000000000000000000000000001%.
But there are a lot of strong forwards in the top 10 this year, any one of whom could really help. And since forwards develop a little faster, it's conceivable that one of these guys could arrive along with Ghost or Sanheim or Morin in a year or two.

Here is the dilemma. If we trade those two than we really have zero defense. We become a lock for McDavid/Ecikelske skirt steak, and then we have to hear from those flightless birds in Pitt. |

Hextall can't know either. He is not able to simultaneously keep Ghost in the AHL and play him in the NHL and choose the version that worked out best. What he can do, like you said, is choose the course least likely to harm the player's development. He believes that is being patient and not "rushing" him. I agree with him in that regard. |

Agree with your clarification. It's all statistics and probabilities anyway.
And, it might be a lot different if we were one or two pieces away from truly contending. NY got a huge boost from Kreider a few years back.
Then again, look at how that has turned out |
