For a while we looked like New Jersey with our neutral zone play. - aflyerpower8
... and for a bit they looked like Tampa of a couple of years back, considering how far back in the neutral zone they were hanging.

How is it that everything that is said about the team that is positive is true when they win, but when they lose, nothing is true?
these are the same players, win or lose. Their flaws don't disappear when they win or lose - AllInForFlyers
Because most of the stuff talked about when a team is in a slump is overreactions. And a lot of hyperbole. This team is a good team when they play like they're capable of. And what do you know, even with Couturier taking all those D zone starts, he was the 1st star of the game. With 3 points. And he now has 5 points in 7 games. It's still one game, and they have to build on this. It means little if they revert back to how they played against Chicago, or how they played inconsistently in other games.

i really like hornqvist and what he brings. however, he really isnt someone who is going to create for himself. from what i saw, crosby was pretty silent, and with that, hornqvist wont be feeling so horny - stayinthefnnet
He's been a beast in front of the net in previous games. Any dude that can get 30 goals in Nashville I would figure would go nuts playing alongside 87 |

Exactly -- it's a little early to gloat about R.J. Umberger scoring a goal in one game when it was fair to question his play in the first six
We all want them to win, but it's a long season. What is said on one night may not hold up the next, but could still be true, depending on what was said, both nights |

This is gonna sound crazy but the only time I've noticed Crosby in the second half of this game was when he was crying to a Ref or turning the puck over. This game has swollowed him whole. - SuperSchennBros

yeah, he played solid.
the only guy I was nervous about was Grossmann, who constantly wanted to freeze the puck even when there wasn't an opposing forward within 10 feet. |

oh yeah. when all is said and done i expect hornqvist to be pushing high 30s, 40 goals this season. he had a really nice tip that emery just swallowed up. im very happy to have him.
but tonight, was just the flyers at consol. not much else to be said. |

Buffalo should make the playoffs this year...as long as their young guys start scoring like they are capable of. Tyler Myers will have a good year if he plays like he's capable of and Enroth plays 70 games like he's capable of. Very exciting year for Buffalo. |

Do you know what also is fair? Giving a player coming to a new team a chance to adjust. It's not uncommon for a player coming to a new team to struggle a little at first. Remember Streit this time last year? How he was a bust and a bad signing? There's nothing wrong with saying a player didn't have a good game or isn't playing well. But that is quite different then stating he's a bust, or a corpse, or a line killer after 5 games. |

That is Grossmann's game. He seals off his man, to wait for the support to come and outnumber them on the puck. He doesn't have the skates to wheel out with the puck.

Absolutely -- hyperbole irritates. That is fine. But take Umberger, for example. I'm on record as saying that I did not mind the trade, like the reduced penalties, and that I thought he still had 12-15 goals, 30 points in him. And he could play the PK.
But if the guy has 1 assist and is a -6 in the first six games, it's not unheard of that people would question what he has left, considering Columbus was considering buying him out.
People are goin to question that kind of start, and while hyperbole doesn't help, one goal doesn't change the first six games |

Again, no problem saying that he can play better or had some bad games. There have been a couple of plays where I felt his effort was piss poor. Most recently last night on the Saad goal. But the season is 82 game long, not 6.
No doubt the Flyers have had a tough start to the season. But all the trade talk, the coach isn't using players right, the defense sucks, every player is overrated. the old GM sucks. All premature. I say let's give it some time and really see what this team is. If the poor play continues 20-25 games in they're in a big hole, then I can understand it. And I also understand the frustration with the start. As the same thing happened last year. But as an experienced fan who has been watching the game a long time. I know the difference between a team that just isn't any good, and a team that get's throttled as they did last night for the main reason that they didn't compete. Well they competed tonight. And they beat a good Pens team on the road. And they pretty much shut down Crosby and Malkin. Two of the top offensive players in the game. And at no time in this game did they look like a deer in head lights, like they did last night. Or like they did in the 3rd period of the Montreal game. They get fired up for the Pens. The difference is emotion and urgency. |

Ha! Yeah. We need him to play better -- he is under contract and he has experience, size and kills penalties
He doesn't have to score, but he can do other things
