Oh, yeah: I hate this normally, but this particular roster screams for the Flyers to play seven defensemen.
If the coach doesn't love Akeson and we're gonna go round and round with Jones/Vandevelde/Akeson, then that's one way to replace Timonen: With two guys. Del Zotto's offense as required, and a seventh guy with hockey sense and defensive ability for the tough minutes who keeps Luke Schenn from getting exposed. - AllInForFlyers
I don't see it screaming for seven defenseman. When Lecavalier comes back, Bellemare will go back to centering the 4th line. And that will strengthen the 4th line. |

Aside from the first 6 minutes or so, that was the most complete game I have seen them play in some time.
I know it will be difficult to sustain, but with the current group, they are gonna need to bring it every single night to that degree if they are serious about being a playoff team. Fantastic effort from all.
Shame Rinaldo got busted up, he was looking good in that first period.
Couts was just a monster last night. |

What a difference from the night before huh? When a team competes, and plays with emotion, and skates, they can be a pretty good team. Much better then standing around and watching the Black Hawks skate around them.

Absolutely.. Now we need to turn one good game in to a string of good games, and develop some consistency within our team game.
Great to see Bellamare get his first as well. He was fantastic last night.. had that one goal and about 3 other really good chances (a couple of post too I believe). |

dz definitely had a skate issue or something, he'd be zipping along and then blammo - -davies-
They mentioned the ice was soft last night, saw it happen to a couple of other guys too, AMac and LSchenn...it was a bit like wachting the World Cup Sniper videos for all the diving...

Small sample, but I really like what I've seen from Bellamare. He looks like a very solid player in all phases. |

Well now you can see the difference in a game between a team that is hungry and skating, and playing with urgency, versus a team that wasn't competing in the game against Chicago. I pointed this out yesterday, and you told me I was wrong. Well it's pretty obvious who was right and who was wrong. |

Building confidence from executing well will help the effort. Part of being a good or elite team is not allowing the intensity & effort to flag when a bad shift or bad goal happens.
Last night, during the first five minutes or so, they were on their heels. They were getting outshot 9-3 at one point. But they had a couple of successful PKs, got a goal from Streit, and followed it with another from Bellemare, and from there they played as a confident team and executed well.
Against Chicago or in the third period against the Habs, or plenty of other times, they allowed poor execution or a bad goal or bad bounce affect them and get them off their game and the intensity lagged. Last night they built off the good.
Maybe they just have Pittsburgh's number |

We "dominated" that game yet nearly imploded in the last few minutes.
Again, the difference as I stated yesterday, is that the great teams dont even get those scares when they dominate a game.

It's pretty amazing how well they play when they get to Pittsburgh. They're something like 11-1-1 at Consol. That's asinine. |

It's simple. The team that wants it more wins each time. |

lol... All teams are gonna have good games and bad games. All teams will have games where they dont bring and where they bring it. They are all NHL teams.. and all capable of winning. Flyers have one regulation win, against a team that they always get up for and seem to have their number. It still doesnt change my opinion that they are not a great team. They are a so-so team who played big last night. Ill cheer for them no matter what. Last night was great to see. |

I didn't get to see the game last night because I was watching Primus do Charlie and The Chocolate Factory at the Tower.
But I see that RJ woke up and got a Gordie Howe hat trick. I'm sure the haters were bleeding all over their keyboards. I'm sorry I missed it.

Effort and intensity often goes hand in hand with execution and confidence. The Flyers had the early penalty kills and quickly tied the game after the first Penguin goal. That seemed to give them a shot in the arm. Then, they take the lead on Bellemare's goal and they took over control of the game. |
