so i ask you......what has pacioretty done in the NHL to be worth SOOO much more than eberle? what has galchenyuk done to be worth even close to eberle? - sensarmy_11
Pacioretty scored more goals and is signed to a better contract. He has a higher trade value than Eberle.
Galchenyuk has a much higher ceiling than Eberle. He was the 3rd overall pick even if he had only played 2 games because of injury. His production since then shows no sign a him being a bust or his injury being a concern. He's a bit taller and bigger. I (and probably the Canadiens think this as well) believe he will be a better player than Eberle by next year (could be as early as this year). |

Eberle is soo good!
He is a superstar and has so many playoff points.
Pacioretty hasn't played on a line with two first overall draft picks either. How do we compare that? |

This from an extremely reliable source. He told me the Canadiens and Oilers have had discussions dating back to the draft in NJ regarding their interest in Jordan Eberle - Eklund
What a scoop!!! A rumor from four months ago.
Kudos.

so because pacioretty has a better contract, it means he's a better player?
and i didnt' realize that being drafted 3rd overall means he automatically has a higher ceiling. so i guess that means that jared cowen, and Luke Schenn have a higher ceilign than Shea Weber, i mean they were drafted drafted WAY higher.
the ridiculous amount of homerism by some of you fans when talking about eberle compared to your players is absolutely ridiculous. |

What has eberle done in the NHL? He hasn't played one playoff game or even a reg season game that has playoff implications. patch and Galchenyuk have played good playoff hockey, are emerging leaders on their team, one has scored more goals Ina season and costs less than Eberle. The other has all world talent and if there was a redraft today would probably go first overall. Take your hab hate elsewhere. |

Or, ... if you can't get the reasonable value for the asset, you still want to try and re-sign him, you keep trying to work it out with him until you have to let him go to Free agency, then you pick up a replacement player from the UFA market that has similar skills, is 4 - 5 years younger, and haven't lost anything. - InSutterWeTrust
Exactly man, who gives a (frank) where Cammi plays? He was replaceable. And as far as trading him, meh, you can't always trade a player before free agency hits, the deal has to be right. Last time I checked you need two parties to make a trade. If you accept a low-ball offer for a guy, it sends a message to other Gms that you are a dyke loser. |

Patches has put up 39 goals with DD as his centre and been to 2 conference finals. As for Alex, I think what has done this year has and will speak for itself.
As for Eberle..no playoffs, no nothing. SooooOOoooOOooOOooOOooOooo...you have a point? |

Wow your so selective in your reading. Just ignore the more goals in a seasons part eh? Whatever, can't argue with stupid. Move along, this ones just here for trolling. - SmielmaN
he scored more goals ONE TIME, eberle has scored more goals than him in every other season that they've both been in the NHL.
oh, and pacioretty is 2 years older.
you're right, it is hard to argue with stupid, so i should probably stop arguing with some of the habs fans on this board who CLEARLY fit that description |

No, I say they are similar players. But between similar players, the 1.5M cap saving makes Pacc more valuable to any GM spending close to the cap or a non cap spending team with money issues. Seems that's a given. - wardancr
yeah, and the fact that eberle is 2 years younger will offset that 1.5mil difference for a lot of GMs |

If Eberle was RFA at the end of his contract, sure. But both will be UFAs in 2019-2020. |

apparently the cap isn't an important factor in today's nhl. Nor is playoff hockey, nor is the fact that you are on the first line of the worst hockey team in the leauge.
Somebody has to score for every team in the NHL. Pacioretty is top line player on playoff hockey team. Eberle is top line player with three 1st overall players he can play with on any given night for one of the worst hockey teams in the NHL. This point is important imo, since Malkin and Crosby really have an inflationary effect on their linemates.
Also style of play is important, Edmonton plays a little looser whereas the habs have typically been a defense first team, especially under Jacques Martin.
I think comparatively you should be arguing who is today, and tomorrow the better hockey player. I'd say it would be arguable at best still, but slight edge to Eberle. |

You seem to be ignoring any valid points from the other side - Pacioretty has outscored Eberle twice. Total goals since they've been in the NHL (both four seasons - didnt count seasons they played hardly any games) is 103 for Pacioretty and 93 for Eberle.
Yes Edmonton is a far worse team - however Eberles most frequent line mates over the past few years are Taylor Hall and Nugent Hopkins. Which is far superior to what Pacioretty has played with in Desharnais and Gallagher/Erik Cole.
So yes these players are not leaps and bounds different in their ability however if i had the choice i would take the player that is scoring more goals with worse linemates on a better contract. I'll accept that he will score maybe a few less points (although play pacioretty with Hall & Nuge and i would bet he puts up more than he is currently).
At least try and use facts and not just troll. |

I would also like to point out that size is still important. And Pacioretty is a bigger player and doesn't always, but when he is playing his best drives the net with his speed.
Size and salary are very important factors.
The edmonton oilers shouldn't trade Eberle anyways, but whenever your hand is forced to make a trade like this you never come out on top. These trades rarely are a one for one scenery change.
Look at trades from the last 5 years. Specifically significant ones. |
