Well, it's impossible to start with. Nut if anyone of our junior players got the call-up, it would be Morin (were his jaw not broken). But I think Manning and Lauridsen would be the 2 next-best choices. - jmatchett383
Not totally impossible. Flyers did something similar with G.
Emergency call up dealio thingy. Idk.. I may be delusional. |

Who the hell cleared Coburn, and why did it come out today that he'll miss a month?
I swear to God, in a month, we really will find out that he's been dead for the last 5 weeks, they just didn't notice. - jmatchett383

Turns out so is Derek Morris, which I did not realize. I assumed he wasn't signed because he's so old, but he's only 36. I guess he has had some injury issues though in recent seasons - mcefalu
Sami Salo would interest me more, but he'd probably just get injured, too. |

Just an idea.. if it were for 10 games that could have bought some time. I have a feeling they are gonna make a move... |

They can do an emergency call-up if there isn't the option of calling up a minor leaguer. That's not the case here, and they need a more long-term solution. |

If we did get Derek Morris, would he just tell the media about how much everyone hates Steve Mason? |

Ugh, yeah. So based on Hexy's philosophy, it's safe to say he won't be trading any picks for a defenseman, which would imply a roster player for defenseman, or signing a bottom of the barrel free agent.
I'd rather just give Alt or Manning a shot even if it means a rough four weeks |

We've already got 2 of them, might as well go for 3-4.
But that means bye-bye contract slots if a waiver player becomes available. |

I remember hearing that initially and thinking wow, Derek Morris is an idiot.
Then lots of time passed and I remember thinking, huh...maybe he was on to something there... |

Jamie McBain, Streit and MDZ on the same blueline interest anyone? |

This...plus there is a chance Boston's blue line situation drives the price up even for bargin basement D men. NO Thanks!
Just take our lumps this season, develop some Phantoms players to see what we have and position ourselves for a better pick in the draft. |

Kind of off topic question for Bill.
What is your feeling of Hextall and his relationship with Berube? If Flyers don't make playoffs and Babcock makes it to the offseason do you think Hextall would try to bring him in? I have no clue but just curious. For some reason I thoought about this when I saw Joe Maddon opted out of the Rays. Curious who goes after him.
thanks Bill - J35Bacher
I think they have a decent relationship. At the same time, both guys know it's a business. I doubt they see entirely eye-to-eye (but no coach and GM ever do, except when it's been one person holding both titles ) but I think they respect each other enough to get on the same page.
They were both clearly in total agreement about the conditioning program implemented over the summer. I don't think Berube shed any tears when Hartnell was traded by Hextall, either (nor do I think Hartnell misses Berube). OTOH, I have a hunch that Berube wanted to enter the season with Morin on a nine-game trial and Hextall was adamant about sticking to the development plan he set as soon as he became GM.
Both guys also know it's a business. As such, if a situation arose down the line where Hextall thought the team needed a change behind the bench, he'd make it.

I'm on the Alt bandwagon as well. I'd rather give him a shot to play himself into the regular line-up versus make a knee-jerk reaction trade. We knew we weren't competing for the cup this year. Let's see what we've got in Alt.
I still remember that Lilja really liked him. |

Agreed, I'm excited to see what he can do. Maybe if/when we get a healthy line-up, he makes one of the "veterans" expendable. |

In all seriousness, just sign a UFA vet and mail the season in. This year has all the signs as a "write off" anyways. Don't mess w/the development of the young guys as much as we all are eager to see them play. |
