What do Braydon Coburn and Andrew Bynum have in common?
That's right, they're both athletes. - jmatchett383
It really is comical how foolish the medical staff of this franchise looks time and again. |

Bad news Coburn is out 4-6 weeks
Good news Coburn is out days, not weeks.
Bad news McCrossin doesn't know how to read an x-ray.
This is on par with Lecavalier's back spasms, turning out to be a fractured back.

If only Tim McCrossin had anything to do with clearing athletes. |

Flyers medical staff: "You look good, you're just sore."
Doctors: "He has a collapsed lung." |

What do you think happened with Coburn? Did he break his foot while rehabbing? Or was the initial diagnosis wrong? You work in the medical field, you would know better than I would. |

He played the point on PP in junior hockey and has a little pro experience doing it as well. I'd be OK with Read, too, under the circumstances. - bmeltzer
They've been using Read in the Hartnell spot on the 2nd unit. Would be nice to get another right handed shot on that unit. They seem to want Couts to be the playmaker on that unit. The only one timer Couts can deliver is to read in the slot. Giroux is able to set up B. Schenn (or VL), Streit and Voracek with one timers from his spot. |

I think it's a fair question to ask. If they want to be cryptic about where the injury is, that's fine, but they shouldn't make mistakes like this two years in a row. |

He could have had a hairline non displaced fracture in his foot. When he had continued pain subsequent xrays could have shown it wasn't healing as expected and the latest doctor recommended another 4 weeks to let it heal.
With CT and MRI there really is not a whole lot of guess work in diagnosing these injuries like it was before these kinds of imaging. |

Maybe now is a good time to make a legitimate trade for a top pairing minutes eater?? The new young guys aren't going to fill the top pairing right away. We'll still need those positions filled with quality Defensemen. We shouldn't squander the time with these good offensive guys. |

Art Ross Akeson as the QB.
Read or Couts at the point. |

But we'll probably have to break the bank to get a top pairing D-man. Every team is going to ask for Coots and I'm not prepared to trade him away |

didn't see this until just now. this piece was written by one of the two partners for InGoal - the magazine which i design.
nice to see him use the mason example at the end.
it's a blocking/anticipation technique rather than a read and react from your feet save. personally, i find it very hard to execute...it's just physically uncomfortable for me, but i do try to work on it just so it's something i have in my playbook if i want.
last weekend a tall rangy player with a big stick and reach came at me from the same side. i knew he was going to go cross crease so i waited for his head to drop and i made a gorgeous poke check and knocked the puck away. unfortunately for me i ended up on my stomach as he went over me and the puck went right to a trailing player in the slot who tapped it into the empty net. some D would have been nice.
anyway, i just use that as an example of their being many ways to skin a cat. timing and execution are everything. |

Nope. I don't think so. It would be great to land a generational talent like him, but I still think Buffalo and Edmonton are worse teams. As well as Florida and Carolina. |

Nobody is trading such players when they have them, unfortunately.
If Flyers hadn't been so cap-constrained, they no doubt would have interest in Boychuk and Leddy when the Bruins and Blackhawks were forced to trade those players. |

Agreed. Now if Giroux were to go down for a prolonged period of time, they may actually be in the mix. |

This is the reason I wouldn't make a trade right now. The margin of error is so thin. Say you make a move and trade a Read to get a Grossmann kind of player back - older, maybe on a 1 or 2 year deal. That might be a decent stop gap. But...
If anyone else goes down on Defense, you are beyond (frank)ed. And you have weakened the forward ranks both in the short and long term. And cap wise, there is a good chance it further hurts you.
But if Simmonds, Jake or G go down or slump, it won't much matter. If Coots or Schenn take a step back, they'll be hard-pressed to make the playoffs anyway.
