I'll be rocking my forte jersey and praying Brady doesn't go though our d like a hot knife through butter. - Hextall271
Im ok with Brady going off. Just make sure Cutler doesn't (frank) things up again. Guy kills more possessions than anyone. |

Money aside, I would choose JvR over Simmonds. When comparing contracts, Simmonds is the clear cut option. - SuperSchennBros
I wouldn't. And it's not close in my opinion. I'd choose Simmonds.

So you would not have traded Richards and Carter? - MJL
Under the circumstances I outlined, probably not.
(Keeping that initial core together --Gagne/Hartsy/Lupul/Richie/Carts/Upshall/Carle/Coburn/Kimmo -- having G and JvR on top of that... and whatever other prospects they would have drafted w/ the 1sts that went to ANA (guys like Justin Faulk and ROR would have been in the wheelhouse). |

I never said anything about anything being close. JvR is the better player. Money just makes Simmonds more tempting. |

Superstar is a rare category. That's the difference. Players like Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, and Malkin are above those players. - MJL
Yeah, there's a category for those kinds of guys: generational/semi-generational. |

I disagree that JVR is the better player. The difference in money between the two is 275K

There were lots of other circumstances involved in the real world that those trades were made in.

I'm not gonna ignore Simmonds hot start but I believe Simmonds is now pointless his last three games. I also won't ignore that Simmonds has 7 points to JvR's 5.
However JvR is on the top line for Toronto without a legitimate number one center. He's on their number Power Play unit. He kills penalties. He's used in the shootout and never missed once last season. JvR is their second best player on a notoriously bad team. Simmonds doesn't do half of this on a good team and might be the Flyers third best player.
You might be right but I'd find this tough to argue. If JvR isn't the better player, he's easily the more skilled player. |

Eh, Zherdev was more skilled then a lot of players also but that is not all that matters.
Personally i would take current Simmonds over current JVR. |

Think the generally accepted definition of a 'star' is anybody who has wide name-recognition and a certain cache among fans. JvR is firmly in that group, being the productive 1LW of the team at the center of the hockey universe. |

Simmonds is better on the PP, and he doesn't play with one of the top offensive players in the game at ES the way that JVR does. Simmonds is a terror on the wall and around the net.
And how does how good the team that the player plays on, and how much talent each teams has, factor into how good each individual player is?

Tons and tons of players have wide name recognition. That's not the definition of a star. He's a pretty good player, and a good goal scorer. But not a star player in my opinion. |

Yeah, by weight, I would say that's correct. About 10-12 tons worth of players.

Simmonds is great along the walls and in the crease but ES Simmonds doesn't produce in bunches anyway. Simmonds isn't expected to JvR is. JvR easily has the better hands and skating and once again, an all situations player for his team. |

i wouldn't. i think simmonds brings a competitiveness, edge, and grit in front of and around the net the jvr doesn't. he doesn't have the hands that jvr has, but i like the sum of his parts more. |
