Remember that game where Cowen was on for 11 scoring chances against and none for? I know he's not playing tonight, but don't tell me 0 of the almost 40 shots against per game are scoring chances. - Todd.Cordell
They'll get scoring chances, and a couple of them will probably be 3 bell chances too, but most of the shots won't be from good spots.
I think the bigger problem New Jersey is up against in this game is that Ottawa has superior goaltending and better forwards. The defensive issues are there, but hey, they kept Stamkos from scoring.
This is a tough game for the Devils. Senators are well rested, at home, the fans are gonna be riled up, I think New Jersey is up against it big time. They'll break out of their slump, just doubt very much that it happens in this game. |

Also, they can't be rolling with Schneider tonight, can they? Like, he played an overtime game just last night, faced 37 shots and a shootout AND had to travel.
New Jersey has to be rolling Clemmensen out for this game. Seems too early in the season to be riding Schneider that hard. |

5-1 Devils - blizzzard
The biggest issue here is that you think Ottawa is only going to score once on Scott Clemmensen. |

From the previous blog:
I actually think he will be one of the biggest risers from last years draft. He looks miles better then Lemiuex and everyone was so butt hurt we didnt take him. To be honest I dont see the potential there Q is showing a ton of potential and 25 goals in your second season in the Dub is certainly not an easy task and to think how much he could build on that in his third year, Kid was the best pick we made that entire draft. - blizzzard
was actually gonna ask about our prospects
any news on santini or jacobs

Sal's best days are definitely behind him...but he's the captain. You can't healthy scratch him. - rangerdanger94
So what would happen if he isn't captain anymore? |

Im out of the loop when it comes to college kids lol. It doesnt look like Kujawinski is exactly lighting the league on fire in what I believe to be his last season of jr? he has 5 pts in 10 games or something. |

I heard that to and its crazy because I really really wanted Bleackley. Kid is or was captain of his team and could score hit and fight I wonder what it is about that kid Roy hates. I am also not sold on Roy being this legend of a scout or gm or anything that doesnt involve playing goalie. He is being treated like one of the greatest minds in hockey already and I think its a little premature. - blizzzard
Guess you can ask the same about DeBoer and Larsson.
"Larsson finally made his season debut on Tuesday, but even then he logged just 12:30 minutes of ice time. Devils coach Pete DeBoer didn't give a reason for Larsson's return to the press box other than to say that 'we're putting the best lineup on the ice we can to win tonight.'"
Really? Does anyone believe that DeBoer is icing the best lineup? |

I'm annoyed about the breakdowns vs. NYR and Dallas in the last two games still. Especially that beautiful centering pass by Zidlicky directly on a Ranger stick that led to the tying goal Tuesday. Not to mention the numerous two on ones his mistakes yielded in that game. Then last night Greene uncharacteristically coughs up the puck which leads directly to a goal. Throw in Schneider has given up some questionable goals. The Devils should be better than 3-2-2.
Meanwhile Larsson played a solid game against the Rangers other than one 2-on-1 against and his reward is going back to the press box. Severson has been uneven the last few games too. But apparently some guys can make mistakes and other guys can't.
The Devils are now actually playing a very aggressive system. One that should benefit Larsson's generally solid positional play. It makes no sense. PDB is a good coach X's and O's wise but his destruction of Larsson is the worst part of his tenure. |

No, but Pete is smarter than everyone, didn't you hear?
If you have a 38 year old slow footed defenseman, make sure to play him well over 20 minutes a night.
Penalty kill struggling? Make sure to ice a 4th line that produces nothing, while taking silly minor penalties night in and night out. Also, make sure you rest your best defenseman during the PK so he's fresh when we really need him and give your slowest Dman about 5 minutes of PK time a night.
Sign a goalscorer in the offseason to help your struggling offense? Well if you did and he scores 4 goals in his first three games, make sure to demote him to the second line in favor of offensive juggernaut Dainus Zubrus. Sure you could have had Zubrus center the third line and bump Henrique up to the second line to give that line more pop, but why not slow your top line down instead.
Petey should offer a clinic on how to have a great system and game plan, then flush it down the toilet with your personnel decisions. |

Schneider is in goal. - BarryB1124
I don't have a problem with that. It's early and they've had plenty of nights off, and having spent the bulk of his career as a backup he certainly doesn't have that many miles on him. |

He wouldnt have but with all the questions around every single player we did draft I think its great that Q is standing out or looking as good as he is. Personally at the day of the draft or I should of said on the day of the draft I wouldnt have taken either of them. I am not scout but I would of taken that russian kid out of all the players available at the 30th spot. Today I am more then pleased with the Q pick, I havent really looked into who was available that we didnt pick for any of the other rounds so I wont comment on them. - blizzzard

Zid is on his game tonight. He started off the year well, but now he's apparently back to his usual self: more helpful for the opponents by giving them PPs |
