They're not rushing him if he's already better than the bottom half of your blueline
- JoeRussomanno

I'd rather they have him in the AHL if we had the choice, better to have the prospect over ripe then put them in over their head and end up with a useless player.

I thought Del Zotto was very good last night, all around. So were Schultz and Grossmann. Actually, Del Zotto has played better of late even without the puck (though there is still room for improvement).

Last night, the Flyers biggest problem was that they couldn't cope with the Red Wings' puck possession ability and couldn't move the puck up the ice even when they did finally get hold of it. For much of the second period in particular, the Flyers couldn't even get dump-ins in with puck pursuit the Red Wings zone much less come anywhere near carrying it in.

I'm not complaint about him, maybe if he didn't have to carry Luke schenn he'd be better. But looking at his season as a whole, and looking at what I saw from ghost (in one game) it was about what you get out of MDZ on a nightly basis.

I think you'll end up with a useless player, you had one all along. The cream rises to the top. I wouldn't be railing on about this but with the injuries and news of Hextall entering the lastest poop tasting contest, I'd rather switch gears and let ghost learn on the job. If it means he's gonna learn bad habits then fire berube and promote Murray

We differ on this philosophy, I'd rather let them develop then toss them into the fire if it can be avoided.

They've used the toss them into the fire mindset for years & it's proven for them overall not to work.

I'm watching replay, just saw Grossmann's goal...WTF was up with the call on Schenn for embellishment? Weak ass call
- Jsaquella

Even the Red Wings broadcast crew couldn't believe it. My best answer is the refs want him traded as much as the fans who use him as a scapgoat for every loss. Good for him for just swallowing his pride and going right to the box. I didn't think the calls were very good last night.

I don't fault Berube whatsoever for not using an inexperienced, undersized Dman in the 3rd period of a tight game. Any other coach would have done the same.
- BiggE

Also keep in mind the fact that Ghost was one of many guys in orange that had a rough shift on the sequence that ended in the Datsyuk goal. When the Flyers retook the lead at 3-2, Berube had to go with the four defensemen whom he felt were having the best game on this night, which were the 8-32 and 15-55 pairs.

Even heading into the game, Gostisbehere knew there was a good chance he would get sparing 5-on-5 time and some power play time. Both Hextall and Berube told him to expect that.

Terry Murray had some great advice for Gostisbehere before he left Allentown for the Philly callup: "This is something special that doesn't happen often, so just go take everything in and have fun up there."

Gostisbehere was told NOT to expect this to be a long-term callup and to just use it as a learning experience while keeping things as simple as possible. There were some definite jitters early in the game but he settled in more or less as the game moved along.

Assuming there are no roster moves between now and Tuesday, I think he'll carry a similar approach into the LA game.

Ok then next question. Why didn't they call the high stick on Datsyuk or the trip on Nyquist in the last 5 minutes?
- Feds91Stammer

If you're talking about the L Schenn trip on Nyquist, THAT was a blown call for sure. Should have been a Detroit PP.

The Red Wings forwards cannot pass like Datsyuk and Zetterberg but they all handle the puck the same. It's unbelievable.

I don't see it so much as they rushed and ruined, more like rushed, got inpatient with expected growing pains and traded for overpriced veteran.

Rushing him has to do with his own personal development, not whether or not he's better than what we have

Not at this point of the season. Wouldn't trade Streit regardless because he is now in the leadership role that Timonen played. However, if the Flyers are out of the race near the trade deadline, I would see if a team would overpay for Grossmann.
- bmeltzer

I agree about streit as he has been as advertised really. no issue with him. contract maybe a 1 year too long is all.

I was figuring now might be a good time to rid of gorssmans contract and or possibly schenns. short term hit no doubt.

Ghost of Kerry Fraser?

Actually, I'm watching the third now, so I haven't seen those yet. The faceoff violation was a bad call, didn't catch which Red Wing it was on, but he played the puck with his stick

- Jsaquella

Faceoff violation they're going to call that everytime. I can see that he tried to use the butt-end of his stick but his glove caught a lot of puck on that play.

The highstick from Simmonds on Datsyuk was a horrible missed call, bullet dodged by the Flyers. The trip on Nyquist was a correct no call IMO.

If hextall expects a down year there really is no reason to not just play him see what you have. If berube is that much of a meat head then fire him.
- JoeRussomanno

and what if he plays like crap? then what? you close the book on him?

They are rushing him if he's not ready. What's more important, this season or Gostisbehere reaching his full potential

I think it's the right approach. I don't care if Ghost or Alt or Sanheim or Hagg is better than Schenn or Grossmann or MDZ now, I care that they are better in a few years, when the team is ready to contend.

We're collecting wins just off the skin of our ass. Simmonds starts hot but hasn't collected a point in four straight games now. With exception of last night, the top line always looks flashy but doesn't always convert when we need them to. They look good right now but it's almost as if they're taking over Simmonds hot start, while we have one guy who shows up a game. Raffl last night, Couturier Wednesday.

Two points is two points, but that was one of the ugliest 4-2 wins I've ever seen. Absolutely Leafs'ing it.

I wonder what changed from the Pittsburgh game were they were even. Must have been Rinaldo getting hurt.

i am not a fan of berube's handling of some players, but i am willfully and blissfully ignorant of x's and o's. so i'll ask in here, i know some of you are into that... did berube make an adjustment that allowed them to finally start bringing the puck into the offensive zone or did they just get lucky.
