I was also very happy to see Raffl bury that breakaway and shut up the naysayers - wilsonecho91

Trying to watch the football game. I swear there's a penalty on every single play it's ridiculous. |

I think the Detriot goaltender got a piece of it actually.
They may be talent shy, but the heart of this team I would never question. Nice to see Grossmann getting some recognition. Id be keeping him 10/10 over Luke if it ever came down to it. |

Emery looks so much quicker this year, seems more agile. Really like his new pads, look great. |

I loved that PK shift by Bellemare. What a momentum changer.
Shame they can't find a few defenseman gems they way they found him (and Read too) - Marc D

Couts to me looks like he is taking that next step this year (although it is very early).
BSchenn has had some moments but also some very frustrating shifts.
Still a work in progress.
I think MDZ is getting better each game too.
The next month could be very big for him. Berube has no choice but to play him. - Marc D
yep, this is mdz's big chance to turn it around |

I'd trade streit and McDonald( if he was healthy) if in fact that is the going rate...just to get out of those contracts...being competitive now is great but I would like to hexy have a bunch of cap space and picks to play with. - iskatefast
To do what, pay a premium to replace those players? Last night was a glimpse of life without MacDonald and Coburn.

That's not all that changed. Another quality defenseman was missing from the lineup.

Up and down the roster, Detroit has smarter hockey players.
Pittsburgh might have more talent, especially at the top end. But Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Nyquist, Abdelkader, etc., those guys are all smarter hockey players than all but Crosby, and Crosby is prone to frustration.
Niklas Kronwall alone is smarter than the entire Pittsburgh defense except for Paul Martin, who is as soft as they come. - AllInForFlyers
I'd kill to add Paul Martin to the Flyers. Very underrated defenseman.

I'm glad you can recognize the good work Grossmann does. I don't think very many people around the boards fully appreciate his value as they cavalierly toss his name into various cap saving trade proposals. The Flyers often struggle with backchecking and handling opposing forecheckers in their own zone...part of that is on the Flyers forwards, who need to be better in support, but I wouldn't want to see how much easier opponents would have it in the Flyers zone if the physical guys like Grossmann and to a lesser extent, Schenn are traded away.
Grossmann is one of the only guys out there consistently making opponents pay the price in the defensive zone by aggressively banging/pinning guys with the puck against the boards and getting physical with guys in front of the net. He's also one of the only guys on the Flyers who seems willing and able to measure guys up coming across the blueline, close the gap and check them off the puck. And how many shots don't see the net because he blocks them? He also makes good, basic puck moving plays in the defensive zone most of the time and can join the play now and then without overdoing it in terms of risk (he plays within himself).
I know some people seem to always want to point out the occasional time he gets turned around or fails to clear or causes an icing, but in my eyes, the yeoman's work Grossmann does in the defensive zone night in and night out is well worth putting up with a mistake here and there. Admittedly, he had some tough stretches when dealing with nagging injuries, like last season, but when healthy I think he's a very solid second pairing Defensive D man and earns every bit of his salary. - exlund

Chance-wise, it looks like L Schenn might have held Ghost back last night. - JAKEw1234
Luke Schenn played 17:03 at ES, and played well. Gostisbehere played 9:40 at ES

The more the board talks terribly of Grossmann, the more awesome they make him seem to me. I'm not sure what people expect of him or what they're seeing out there but he does his job and he does it to the best of his ability. I honestly think it's nuts to even suggest trading him. |

Looked like Foles expected Cooper to do a hook or something similar. |
