Can't argue with that. Wasn't for the signing, but Miller has played very good for the most part. And I am not against trading Lack to address needs or to get a good pick/prospect- we are deepest in goal with Markstrom and Eriksson on the farm, why not use it.

Not jumping on the Miller bandwagon, but if he is hot then you ride him.

The goalie trade market isn't good though. You're unlikely to get a solid return for Lack. Not enough teams are desperate plus TO is also willing to move Reimer.

It's a buyer's market.

That market is never good unless you are trading Ryan Miller or Varlamov, I guess Lack would be more in the Bishop return range.

But the option is still there if it can be a deal on it's own or part of a package. Seems like a bit of a waste having that depth (Cannata in the E too) with Demko due here in a year or two. Might have to take what we can get.

I think Lack is an excellent TDL trade. Teams like Carolina, Buffalo, Peg...
My ideal scenario will be trading Mathias now to canes for their 3rd, Burrows to Mtl for their 3rd and c prospect and Hansen to Peg for 3rd. (I love 3rds) Then at tdl id we are buyers trade 1 or 2 of the 3rds for an impact player that is not a pending UFA. Someone like Stewart.

I would say closer to Fasth than Bishop (3rd 2015 and 5th 2014)
Package deal I would be down if it tipped the scales, but I think with goaltending teams are more reluctant to trade for someone who they haven't developed themselves. Most teams have one or two enigmatic goalie prospects that they think could be a starter

I think we will get more then a 3rd for Lack. Our goalie prospects have real high value due to our development of them. I think teams around the league respect our goalie prospects same as teams around the league respect the D prospects of Preds. Maybe I am being a typical Canucks fan and overvaluing our assets but I would be pissed is all we got for Lack was a 3rd.

I would be pissed as well but I think a Bishop type return is the ceiling and a Fasth type return would be sort of the average whilst Dubnyk return would be the absolute floor. If there is no market then we have seen how little teams can get in return for decent assets.

Picks back would be great.

If you are Eddie Lack, do you really want to resign in Vancouver after next season or sign an extension if Miller is still here?

Maybe tdl is the time to make the deal.

Markstrom won AHL player of the week. just under 2 periods of Shutout hockey and he breaks the AHL record. AHL.com posted some highlights of Markstrom. I wouldn't say the highlights are mind blowing, but positioning seems very solid and with that frame maybe that's all he needs to do.

here's the highlights.

The Miller signing absolutely pushed Eddie out one way or another, I just think we will all be disappointed with the return (I think we are all used to that by now)

Yep, it is expected.

If we are retooling, any picks we get can come in handy and with a deep draft, there will be some gems in the later rounds. Let's see Benning make some deals.

I doubt Benning makes that many moves this year. I also think Willie has told Benning he prefers having depth, so I doubt you'd see Benning turn around and deal Matthias/Hansen/Burrows today. Sure you can play Horvat/Jensen but once an injury or two hits we're back with Sestito and other scrubs in the lineup. If you don't have a legit 2nd line you need a 3rd and 4th line that can both handle 10+ mins a night.

At the TDL is a different story though, if this team doesn't look good to make the playoffs then selling is the way to go.

Once they've been traded or let go a couple of times, yes expectations should be adjusted.

Good point.

I could see Lack moving earlier. Canucks are paying Markstrom NHL money and also taking a 300k cap hit while he's playing in the A. Cannata is playing in the ECHL since there's no room for him in Utica.... and he's not even with the Canuck affiliate, which isn't exactly ideal. I'm sure whatever team would want Lack would want to take a good look at him before he's eligible for UFA so they'd probably be interested in dealing for him earlier rather than later.

Its been a month or so. Never to soon to critically assess roster players.
- thundachunk

Critically assess, yes, and I'm sure he's doing just that, but come to a conclusion about, no, absolutely not. We've been watching these players for years, Benning hasn't.

Don't forget Thatcher Demko in the NCAA. They were very high on him. Which is very frustrating because a 2nd round pick was used on him and we would be extremely lucky if we could get a 2nd rounder for Lack. nuts.
