I just don't understand why the Kings should be helped. The Ravens are still paying Ray Rice and it counts against their cap this year. Same with the Patriots and Hernandez last season.
I might be willing to let the Kings take Voynov off of the roster. There is no way in (frank)ing hell I would allow them to use his cap hit and contract slot though. - PhillySportsGuy
It's very simple. While the situation is being litigated, the Kings should get temporary cap releif with the situation, because Voynov is out indefinitely. They should be able to have some space to work with to call players up and temporarily replace the player. No different then if Voynov suffered a long term injury. When the case is decided, and it's determined what will happen with Voynov, then the team might have a decision to make. But until then, they deserve releif of the situation. |

I was comparing the situation where the NHL gifted New Jersey a draft pick because Kovalchuk went to Russia and the Flyers' situation with Chris Pronger.
I feel like the NHL could easily have figured something out in a situation like Pronger's where he's obviously not going to play again. Instead, they chose to give him a job in the league office and continue the facade (via the LTIR process) that he's actually going to ever play again. - johndewar
I don't understand why putting Pronger on LTIR is considered a facade by many. He's suffering a long term injury. |

The League did figure something out. LTIR. No need to do anything else. I disagree with how the NHL handled the Kovalchuk situation from the beginning. |

I can't wait until Rinaldo is arrested for defecating in a mall and the league forces him to play top line LW with Giroux as punishment to the Flyers. |

How exactly do charges for domestic violence and a long-term injury get equated here? |

The two situations aren't remotely the same.
It wouldn't be ridiculous at all. It would simply be the right thing to do.

I think LTIR implies the player can actually come back from the injury. That's not the case for Pronger. It's a career ender, and everyone knows it.

The player is out of the lineup indefinitely, same as if he suffered a long term injury. That the player suffered the injury, isn't the team's fault, which is why they're able to use LTIR to replace the player if need be. Same with Voynov committing domestic violence. That is also not the team's fault, so they should be able to get cap relief for that until the situation is worked out. |

Did you read the incident listing in the attached court filings? Some really crazy poop in there... Ray Rice level poop. - Tomahawk
Yes, I agree. He seems like a horrible person. I would release him if I was their GM. Not sure the league can do anything with out the DA filing charges.

The rule in place for suspensions covers Voynov. No need for any other ruling from the NHL or any kind of exemption for the Kings. Just as the rules for LTIR cover the Flyers' situation for Pronger.
Cut and dried. The Kings aren't getting (frank)ed, those are the rules. |

No it doesn't imply anything. It implies the player is injured and will be out of the lineup for at least 10 games and 24 days. That is the rule. |

Their bit ching about it now, though, does make their earlier endorsement of the NHL suspension ring hollow. |
