I'm going to disagree with you on some degree here. I think he can be a weapon. Kid's fast as lightening. I think he can be one of those guys you need on the back end that captains a PP, puts up 50 40-50 points, and is more or less unnoticeable in his Dzone (in the good way)

Definitely needs more AHL seasoning though. I think we all knew that. Hell I'll bet you even he knows that!

Not disagreeing but his mistakes have been primarily with the puck and not without it. That's supposed to be his bread and butter. He'll relax and be fine. I was impressed with his play in his own zone, Datsyuk goal notwithstanding

Didn't his stick break just prior to Datsyuk's goal? Notwithstanding indeed...

His puck mistakes I attribute to jitters. It's an easy cop out, but it's certainly valid at this juncture. Kid is going to be a player though, I think

I think he can, but it might not be fast -- developing man strength takes time. I had the same frame he does at his age, and while I don't have the kind of access to professional trainers those guys do, I did/do take care of myself reasonably well, especially at that age

Obviously, he's not me. But there's a difference between gaining weight and gaining strength, and it might be a little longer than the average person realizes

I agree, wouldn't surprise me in the least if he plays 1.5 to 2 years in the AHL before coming up for good.

Honestly, I expected more mistakes with the puck than without. He's a dynamic guy who has been more skilled than most of the opposing players at pretty much every level. Some of the stuff he's been able to do at lower levels, he simply won't get away with at the NHL level.

He's played well overall, and I just hope he gets the ice time he needs to develop

I know people might not want to hear that, but as good as he likely can be offensively, he has to be able to defend down low, on the wall and in front of the net

He's not ready to do that yet. I think he's got a good stick and great hockey sense, especially offensively, but he only played 12:40 tonight because Berube's gotta hide him -- and Berube should do that. That's smart coaching

don't you love how the ref behind the net, who had absolutely zero chance of seeing what actually happened waited 5 seconds to wave no goal. this is why i hate referees.
- hammarby31

There was a time when the Flyers took a tone of penalties and it seemed like the officials might be watching them too closely. In fact their history might be built on this fact. However now the Flyers have cut down on the penalties and the calls still seem pretty bad.

If he does that "step out from behind the net with the puck and two forecheckers on you" too many more times, it's gonna be in the back of his net before he realizes it, at the NHL level

That doesn't detract from his skill. It's that the quality of competition is so much higher -- some of those guys can lift your stick and get a pass or shot off before you can blink

Yep. He has a ton of skill. No denying that. I just want him to play a poopload of minutes, be it here or with the Phantoms. Berube has been smart in his usage thus far. Close games against good teams, hard to justify a rookie in his 2nd game seeing a ton of ice in the third

gf has an appointment with a rheumatologist tomorrow.

Send good vibes to her please. She deserves it.

I'm off to attempt sleep. No guarantees. Good night and good hockey.

Exactly -- he's a rookie. I've seen good things and bad things in his shifts, and he just needs experience.

It'll come.

Would it be unfair to point out that Simmonds has gone from our hottest to our coldest player? I ask because what if Lecavalier had a hand in why he was playing so well.
