What you're missing is that the stat is based on points, which is how the NHL calculates the standings. The NHL standings is a points based system. Therefore if you have earned half of the points available to the team, then you are a .500 team.
If you want my personal opinion. A team who hasn't won half of it's games should be considered a .500 team. But that's not the reality of the NHL standings system. It is skewed because you can actually earn points even if you lost the game. But what I or any other fan thinks is irrelevant to the facts of the standings. - MJL
Wait.. this is the first time in recorded HB history that you ignored semantics and just agreed to something... unless you are just (frank)ing with us and left the n't of the should on purpose. |

You've missed the point. My statement is based on how I interpret it. It's based on the official standings and how the NHL ranks teams in it's point based standings system. - MJL
I didn't miss your point. You interpret via the points system. Others interpret it via wins and losses. Neither are wrong. |

So I am going to use official NHL standings.
Flyers have 4 wins.
Flyers have 5 losses.
Now, because my homeboy Pythagoras of Samos decided Math was a cool ting...
I will do math.
Flyers have played 9 games. They have won 4 games. 4/9=z
z=.444444∞
That looks to me like a mathematical answer. Typically math is factual as well. - jak521
If the Flyers board a plane from Philadelphia heading to Tampa Bay at 10 AM, and the Lightning depart from their homes at 4 PM, who will score the first goal of the game? |

You're not using the official NHL standings. You're just using the wins and loss column. And you've omitted points earned by not losing in regulation and OT. In the NHL points based standings system, there are sometimes 3 points available in some games. |

So the Flyers current streak is equivalent to taking two Viagra's, downing a six-pack of 8 hour energies, and then walking around in sweatpants (sans underwear) in a shopping mall? - jak521

I don't remember that exact convo, but I once dislocated my toe walking down my steps. Just popped it back into place, and then watched it become 3 times its normal size. |

I'm not interpreting anything. That's what you're missing. I'm simply going by what the NHL says. if I was giving my own interpretation and opinion, I'd state that the Flyers aren't a .500 team. But I've removed opinion from the equation, and just used the facts. |

Oooh.. toughie..
Depends on which airline they take. If the Flyers take Deta they are (frank)ed.
If Tampa Bay's flight gets delayed due to a squall.. they Flyers are (frank)ed.
Only sensible solution. Broke Steben Stamkisses legs. |

The issue is the not every game has the same point value. Where some games are 3 point games, and some are 2 point games, totally changes winning percentages.
Either 0 points for overtime and shootout, or go with 3 pts for regulation win, 2 points for OT/SO win and 1 point for overtime/shottout losses.
Today the Flyers point percentage is really .455 they have gained 10 points out of 22 that have been awarded in their games to date. They have played 4 games that went beyond 60 minutes, so 9 games of 2 points plus 4 games at 3 points.
In the 3 point per win system they would be at .444 having 12 points out of 27 total. At least with the 3 point per game system, there is uniformity, one game is not worth more or less than any other game. |
