The crazy thing?! Jackman did exactly that (let up) on a guy along the boards. He pushed him from the lower back into the boards gently and held him there until the play completed. This was before his multiple crosschecks to the back followed by an interference by the Stars player, but...
- eggsegan

I saw it happen a couple of times in the previous two home games as well...once was Jackman and once was Leopold I think. You can let up on a guy and still make sure you take him out of the play. IMHO, there is room for that in the game.

Pass.

We kept trying to tell Garthe and the Sabres guys on here that Tarasenko was not going to be involved in any Miller deal. Maybe now they are starting to see why, lol.

I knew he was a beast from the beginning. Of course that was because he laid a beating on Detroit

Am I the only one a little concerned about Backes? How many more times is he going to be able to get his bell rung? I don't think he's looked the same since the Seabrook hit. It's unfortunate because he really is not a dirty player. However he does take the body pretty much every chance he gets, so when guys get a chance to catch him off guard, they're more likely to follow through. A guy like him, who has a bit of a target on his back, needs to keep his head up a little more than most guys.

Yeah, I am concerned about Backes. Head injuries are not a joke.

That was more freaky of a thing.

My concern is that what happened to him the other night is a countre coup text book definition.

You see the problem with TBIs has more to do cumulative effects than necessarily one bang on the noggin. The way he hit his head his brain went a bouncing around against his skull. Each rush of movement of his body and his brain rushing this way and that from gravity, from hitting the skull is going to cause a contusion on his brain. The question is how severe. The more places your brain receives trauma at once the more likely harm will be done. It might be short term then catch up to you later in life but such a trauma can disrupt multiple brain functions which can lead to all sorts of abnormal behavior to include most specifically the inability to make normal rational judgements wherein someone attaches more readily to addictive and self destructive behaviors. Which can further complex the original trauma and lead to other nasty side effects such as major depression. As far as I know there is no real cure for major depression there is just manners in which you cope with such an illness.

So as a fellow human being I am most certainly worried about his health. Such trauma can lead to divorce and suicide in the bleakest of circumstances. Or something like what Mohammed Ali went through.

Competitive advantage trumps respecting your opponent 99% of the time in the NHL right now and the NHL and NHLPA don't seem to care to really do anything about it.
- stljam

I am right there with you on this.

Look at Steen last season. He has a break out start to the season. Then all of sudden what was it like twenty games in the other teams start targeting him. And not in the way that a rationale human being targets talent. Nope. They start targeting his head with hits until he ends up concussed.

That is the bs going around this league on too many teams. Like Stastny. In every game as a Blue someone has made beyond the normal hit attempts at him. I wonder if they hope to rob the Blues of some points.

Schwartz is another example. I have seen three teams where players on those teams have targeted his head in hits. Some of it might be his size until you look at the Arizona game when Mr. I forgot how to score goals shot off the ice and throws an elbow into his head.

If I could transfer the recordings on my dish onto my computer I would show the examples.

I truly do not understand how the NHLPA or NHL can tolerate having their talent being decimated by marginal players no one would otherwise pay to watch.

Both Osh and Backes are lost to concussions. Not good. Both on iffy plays where the opposing team took actions that did not further the play in any way. Calling bullpoop on both plays. Unnecessary contact leads to concussions.

On the bright side? This gives Tarasenko/ Lehtera *FIXED* (thanks, Carcus)/ Steen more ice time. What does the second line look like? Schwartz/ Stastny/ Lindstrom? Berglund plays with Ott and Pajarvi?

"On the bright side," he says as he polishes a turd.

Don't forget Stastny is out still too. Beglund will center Schwartz and Lindstrom. Ott will center Jaskin and Paajarvi. Enter Porter on 4. Oh, and Lindstrom is sick also. Could be a seven D type of night.

Lehtonen wants nothing to do with Tarasenko.

Stastny still not back yet, wonder if they call up Rattie?

Yeah I do not know how there was no call on the ice on the play against Oshie. I guess a two minute 5-3 is too much for the refs to call as both defenders pushed him into the goal.

How the NHL does not punish either one or both after the fact is amazing. I mean they not only hurt Oshie but they also could have hurt one of the league's best goaltenders. Freaking stupid bs.
