Did you read the Eichel article Buccigross put up on ESPN? Had a lot of cool info in it. - HonkFortheGoose
I wasn't able to get to it. I won't be disappointed to get him. I still want McDavid, though, simply for the fact that he's the guy everybody wants. There's a certain satisfaction in your team getting the guy that everybody else covets.
Also, and I stated this before, I actually feel that Eichel will look better early out of the gate, simply because of the competition he's playing now versus that which McDavid is. The same thing happened with Ovechkin and Crosby. However, once Crosby was able to get over that barrier, he ended up being the better player. Both will be great, though. |

The top 3 guys coming out are guys you build around IMO. - dadeadhead
Id put Kylington in the category as well. I'd love to see what TM does with the roster if he winds up taking a defensemen though. Have to believe there would be a 2nd move of some sort(FA/trade) to address the offence. |

I agree. I'll be happy with either of them, but it would be nice to actually get the top prize instead of the "consolation prize." Though Eichel is one hell of a consolation prize.
I think his attitude is something that sets him apart from McDavid though. Not to say that McDavid doesn't work hard, but the article talks about how nothing was handed to Eichel. Things were not always easy for him and his parents taught him that you have to work hard for everything. Nobody is entitled to anything and you have to work for it.
McDavid has been touted as so great since he was 11 that he doesn't really know what it's like to really have to fight and claw for what you want.

I agree with most of your statement except the bolded. There is no way of knowing that. McDAvid is touted as a student of the game. He has great skill but he also has the desire and work ethic to continue to get better and better.
This article is exactly why I want this kid:

I agree and said the same thing.
IMO Eichel will look better just because of the college workout regime. I feel even with one yr of college a guy of Eichel's ability will be better suited initially as he is playing against guys that are in their early 20's rather than teenagers. |

I'm sure he does have a great work ethic. You don't continue to grow your game unless you have it. But, has he really been through any type of real adversity? That can have an impact. Does he know how to handle that? Or what it's like to really struggle? I can't get to the article because I'm at work, so if it mentions any of this, I apologize. |

You can say that Eichel will be better early on, but I do not believe it. It has never been said that Eichle is better than Crosby. McDavid has been said to be at or above the greatest player the league has seen.
If we do not land McDavid i will be very disappointed. Even with the consolation prize. |

That was a really good read......
IMHO you can't go wrong with either of the top two guys and really there are othere that are going to make a big impact as well, this is a really strong draft, I'm hoping we can get two impact players from this draft, That will really set this team up going forward.

I get what you are saying, but Crosby never faced adversity and he is the best player in the game. Lebron, Jordan, Manning etc etc.
No adversity, just plain old better than everyone else. And when you have the guy that is better than everyone else, you are going to win more times then not. |

Justin Williams has 3 in the same time frame. |

You're right, and Goose never said that either. She said that he may start out at the pro level doing better than McDavid just based on quality/size of his competition and won't need nearly as much time to figure that stuff out as McDavid. |

He was short, got cut from his high school team, and had to deal with some racism (Allegedly) before making the pros.

Last time I checked, Manning was 3-13 his first season. I would have to assume there was some adversity there.
And Lebron never won a Championship in Cleveland, so seems inaccurate as well.
In the end, all the great players face adversity at some point, it's just a matter of when it happens to them. In many cases, it doesn't happen until they get to the top level and there is at least a small bit of adjustment that needs to be made in order to push past it. |
