i think this is probably the one area that you and i really disagree on. and its definitely rooted in opinion, so i really cant tell you that youre wrong. but just to me, i cannot see a pedagogical reason why the time on the clock should have a direct correlation due to how a game is reffed.
a penalty is a penalty is a penalty.
same with other sports, such as baseball. i understand certain refs/umps have their preferences on how lenient/strict they are. and thats one thing. but what generates one result at one moment in time, should generate the same result at a later instance, if the only changing variable is time. - stayinthefnnet
I'm certainly not going to say that you're wrong, and in some sense I can agree with it. But I just like it when obvious penalties that don't create or stop a scoring chance are let go, and we get a let the players play situation. |

i most certainly can.
first off, for as much as i love hockey. I fail to see how one's hockey allegiance has somehow been anointed as the barometer through which we measure one's percentage of somehow being a particular city.
in its plainest terms, being "from a city" is nothing more than a mere geographic coincidence or choice, depending on your respective circumstance.
by this logic, does a vegetarian fail to qualify as a real philly person because they dont scarf down the famous cheesesteaks?
do i up my philly quotient because im currently on North broad street eating a soft pretzel? - stayinthefnnet

Why not? Why does being from an area mean you have to root for that area-specific team? I've never understood this. - jmatchett383
I am born and raised in Buffalo, but have always been a Flyers fan.. If anything, I think it makes MORE sense. I actually picked which team I care to root for, instead of just falling in line with those around me.. To each his own |

All you care about is yourself and your parents lack of hometown hockey education has led you to be a front running Penguins fan?
Is that what you're saying sir?
(says the Chicago Bears fan with bad parenting) - mayorofangrytown
I will freely admit that I was a Mariners' fan from 1991-1995, a Yankees fan from 1996-2000, and a Devil Rays and Cardinals fan for short stretches. But that's because my family had fairly close ties to Tino Martinez, so I rooted for him and his teams.
I guess I'm 0% South Jersey since I didn't root for the River Sharks. |

This! I am originally from close to Pittsburgh, yet I affiliated with the Flyers more because they espoused more what I appreciated out of a hockey team. |

I agree. The reason most people become fans of local teams in accessibility, both in local media as well as proximity to the arena. You may even see a few players from the town in public here and there, and there are multiple organized events where you can meet them. So it makes sense for most people to like the local team. But if you want to use a different measuring stick to pick a team, that's fine too. |

i developed affiliations when i was little based on one of 2 ways: player idolatry or how cool of a mascot you had.
even when the pens were bad, there was still usually either a mario or jagr backstory to latch on to. and as a young kid, that was enough. it was cool for me to be jagr when literally every other kid on the street clamored to be lindros.
whatever haha |

I wouldn't, only because you adding $1.5M per year on the cap and because you turn and RFA in 2 years into a UFA for what is (to me) a minimal upgrade. |

They blow. My Steelers fan friend is melting my ear weekly. There's almost no one on that team I give a crap about at this point. I'm waiting for a couple decent draft picks and a way out from under Cutler before I commit any more of my time watching the trash that's hitting the Midway. |

I would if the team was built to win now. I just don't think Perron puts them over the top this or next season. It would make them better, but they still have a poop defense that will be exposed.
Any move I'd make would be for the long term. Perron is signed at a good cap hit for 2 more years. He's a LW and a good scorer. He's just not what the team needs to become a Cup contender.
I feel the Flyers would be cashing in a decent asset in B Schenn for something they don't really need. |

It is a sad state of affairs for many here in the windy city. Don't really follow football all that closely so it's not a huge deal for me, however. |

Steelers aren't that good this year either. Their defense is pretty bad. It's only a matter of time before it catches up with them. Their entire team is so incredibly dependent on Antonio Brown. |
