In the wake of the San Francisco Giants third championship in 5 years, the word Dynasty is being thrown around. So my question to you guys is, what's considered a Dynasty in today's era? The San Antonio Spurs have won 5 championships in the last 15 years. The Detroit Red Wings have won three between 1997 and 2002, would you have put them in the mix of a Dynasty? I would based on their current 23 times in a row of making the playoffs and the fact that the Red Wings were virtually the same time between 1997 and 2002. The topic is being discussed on a Detroit Radio station now and what I actually believe to be shameful is the fact that they're barely bringing up the Wings in the discussion. - SuperSchennBros
To me, to be a dynasty, you have to win at least back-to-back championships and have deep runs resulting in at least 1 more in a 5-year span. The 80's Oilers fit. The 80's Islanders fit. The old Habs teams fit.
The Giants don't work because they missed the playoffs one year. The Red Wings, MAYBE. The Blackhawks and Kings could potentially be dynastic. |

It's a fantastic feeling, isn't it? This must be what MJL feels like all day long. Just going around, pointing out the shortcomings and fallacies of other people's lives and basking in the glow of belittling people to prove your point. |

How different would the reputations of St. Louis, Richards, VL and Torts be if they lost? |

If Ghost was a regular, 27 year old defenseman, people would be wondering why he's even in the lineup after the last game against the Kings.
I like him, but he's just not ready to handle more than 10 minutes against soft competition. The Flyers need more than that right now. - PhillySportsGuy
Not saying I disagree. I also think they should have called up Manning to begin with just because of his experience, but what do they do if Manning ends up playing even worse than Ghost has been? It's the risk you take with calling up an inexperienced player, I get that. From what I know about Manning, he is more physical and the better overall defender (from a very small sample size we have seen).
I just don't think there is any guarantee that Manning is in a better position to handle more minutes vs the same competition Ghost was facing.

I think one of the Blackhawks and/or Kings could absolutely become one, whoever neither have won in back to backs within their two championships. |

MSL would still be a whiny baby.
Richards would still be washed up.
VLC would still be overpaid.
Torts would still be an bumhole. |

Well, it was a loose interpretation. Still, Hawks or Kings could do on to win back-to-backs in the next 2-3 years. |

Flames/Lightning, 04. As heartbreaking as that Loss to the Lightning was, that was probably one of the more fun Finals to watch in recent memory. BlackHawks/Flyers obviously was the best! |

I wouldn't call the Giants a dynasty. The teams are very similar but it's not like they dominated. It's almost like they won the championships by being in the right place at the right time. Not to take anything away from them, but they just aren't a team like the late 90s Yankees or the early 2000s Patriots in the NFL. The 1997-2002 Wings are a tough case only because there were 3 years in a row of them not winning or being in the Cup Final.
No matter what though, this will be a semantics argument of how each person defines "dynasty". I think the term is thrown around too much, tbh. |

Manning has played in the NHL before and is a veteran AHL player. Ghost has more physical ability.
I would have given Manning a few games before going in another direction if he didn't work out.
Just sucks that Alt got hurt too. He would have been the more logical choice. |

I gotta tell you, if the Flyers can't go all the way, I hope one of these two teams can. I know the Hawks first Cup was at the expense of us and the LA kings wouldn't have a Cup without us giving up on Carter and Richards but I like Dynasties teams. I like knowing they there one absolute measuring stick out there, that's a hot ticket. I don't like Sidney Crosby but having a Wayne Gretzky or Bobby Orr is every era I believe is good for the game. |
