Whatever we think of Glass Carlo....at least it's a window into the type of player Hextall likes.
At his best, Glass Carlo has skills.
The problem is, I can call him "Glass Carlo" and an average hockey says "Oh, is that Carlo Colaiacovo?".
Sigh. I'd rather this, than rush one of our guys. On the other hand, how bad would it be to just plug in Brandon Manning as our #6? - johndewar
That would be my choice, but Colaiacovo can play a bit. |

Sure.
When he can play.
Can you imagine Clarkie signing CC? No (frank)ing way.
But when CC is right, he can definitely play. It does make me feel good about where Hexy's head is at, in terms of the type of thing he's looking for.
The problem is, CC probably got hurt loading his bags on the plane to come to Philly. |

it's pretty desperate and obviously shows hextall doesn't have much faith in a guy like manning. - hammarby31
Clearly, a guy like Gus made the right move, career-wise. I liked Gus alot, but you wonder if they would have even played him in these circumstances.
If I'm Manning, I either pray someone gets hurt or I'm telling my agent to trade me. |

Well, it allows Hexy to send Gostisbehere back to the Phantoms and gives him a decent player to plug into the mix. I'd like to have seen Manning stay and play as the 6th guy, but obviously Hextall wants a veteran presence on the Phantoms as well.
It works out in other ways, too. If the Flyers are in the playoffs, Colaiacovo is a solid depth guy that can step in if injuries occur. If they're not in the mix, he's a cheap trade asset they can possibly flip for a pick. |

It could be lack of faith. But I'm thinking he's trying to stay true to keeping the phantoms competitive to build that winning mentality. Which I like the idea of especially if it means keeping one of our younger players out of the press box and actually allowing them to play.
And as far as the signing itself goes, I'm a fan of the choice. I've wanted the Flyers to go after CC for a while now. In hindsight, it was probably a good thing they didn't because of his injuries but I think it's a win win signing under the current circumstances. He has the skills to be an effective player if he can stay healthy and if he can't, we only really need him for a few more weeks until A Mac and Coburn come back. |

I'm actually really curious to see what Berube does with Schultz once Amac and Coburn come back. He's definitely earned the right to stay in the top 6 which probably means Schenn would be the one gets scratched. Which in my mind really sucks not because I feel he has played better than Schultz but it ruins any chance (what little chance there might be) of Schenn developing consistency and probably takes away from the bit of trade value he might have. |

There's that too.. We clearly lost that trade but if Schenn gets scratched it just makes it sting all that much more. |

I agree, I don't see how Manning is such a downgrade from an old vet. Could someone pls correct me if I'm wrong here.
What is the deal with so many too many men on the ice penalties this year in the league and especially to he Flyers. Seems like an issue. |

It does seem terrible. Silver lining? Maybe Sharp trade was worse? I think it was. Ohh and it makes the RJ for Hartnell trade not look so bad. |

I wonder if it is because he came to camp in shape? Perhaps seeing Hartsy out the door gave him extra motivation??? Complete conjecture. |

He said he got off the carbs and worked on conditioning.. I bet that's a big part of it. He's our best forward right now IMO. |

Voracek's dominance along with Giroux's steady presence has allowed Raffl to elevate his game. It's a pretty good first line as of late. Raffl does not look out of place on the top line. |

Any injury updates on Carlo yet? Pull a muscle while sleeping? Twist a knee while getting out of bed?
Let's hope to get a month out of him |

I'm OK with the signing. There wasn't a ton out there and Carlo isn't a bad player.
That said, as I stated last night, I would have been fine with Manning and calling up a 7th guy when they hit the road. |
