Woof -- Detroit's popped open a can of whoop-ass on the Kings, up 3-0 with 7 minutes left in the first
EDIT: Make that 4-0
Looks like Quick let his meltdown carry over |

See, here's the scary thing about this: LA played last night, so really it's not fair to crush them
What really needs to be said is that Detroit can make you look silly if you don't bring your A-game -- they look like their rebuild was done on the fly, except they didn't miss the playoffs and they still have a card or two to play to get a defenseman they like

Speaking of JVR: Just took an awkward fall along the boards, bounced the back of his head off the wall. It was a pretty good shot
He went to the dressing room early. From the looks of it, he definitely got his bell rung |

Like most. I hated the trade. Reason being there are luke schenns (older versions) sitting in UFA at the end of July every year, that can be had for cheaper that possess the same basic tools. (odonnell, Shultz, etc).

Sean O'Donnell is retired and if you mean Nick Shultz, he was signed by us the day UFA opened. |

I've been to 14, 15, or 16 Flyers games live. I've never seen a penalty shot, I saw a shootout in preseason once but held no weight on to the game because the Flyers already won 8-6 over Atlanta and they were introducing it to the fans, I've only ever seen one game in OT at my first game ever and this was before the shootout, so the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Also never saw a playoff game live.
I envy those who have seen more. |

These are examples. Fine, Schultz still costs a third of what Schenn makes a year on the cap. Point being, L Schenn's ceiling was never so high to justify the trade. N Schultz has a more accomplished resume, was still relatively young, and we got him for a third of the price. UFA is littered with these types of Dmen |

It means make the point valid with real examples, starting with Ryan Whitney. |

My bad. We should ask Chris Therein between the benches to play for us because he's cheaper dispite being retired the past eight years. |

Johnny G put on a show tonight. If he was a Flyer he'd be playing a plug role if he even got ice time |

So in other words, you knew exactly the point he was making but instead of acknowledging his point -- which is that Luke Schenn is playing like a replacement-level defender, which he is -- you decided to straw-man it instead of debating the merit of his point.
Got it. |

The female doging about Luke Schenn is stale. He had a long term deal when we picked him up and it extends through next season. So what does he or you suggest we do? I personally would prefer Luke Schenn over Ryan Whitney, Carlo Colaiacovo or any other goof ball the rest of the league has passed on. Colaiacovo couldn't cut it on a good defensive team, that included three number one defenseman, which means he had limited ice time when he played for St Louis last season. Plus many are turning a blind eye to that fact Schenn is capable of good play next to a decent partner. I understand wanting more from him right now but that's the hand we've been dealt at the moment. |

The problem is, they signed guys like Schultz to be spare parts and those spare parts are performing at a higher level than Schenn. Regardless of whether the Flyers signed his contract or acquired it in a trade (not much difference, they willing agreed to take on a $3.6mm cap hit for Schenn), he's making significant money and being outperformed by guys making less, who were signed or acquired to fill lesser roles.
The other argument about his money is, at the rate he's getting paid, he shouldn't need a good partner to be effective. Schultz has shown he can be effective with a good partner, and makes 1/3rd of Schenn's cap hit.
Schenn is in his 7th NHL season. It's hard to play the "He's still young and developing" card. You can find guys every July for less money that can provide good play with a good partner. I'd rather see them bring up Mark Alt or Manning to play third pair minutes and get a chance to develop. |

That's not true. His potential was there. Players don't always meet their potential. Real easy to sit back now and say see, Nick Schultz is really just as good. Fact of the matter is that it's not an exact science. And if the Flyers thought that Schenn wasn't going to progress, they wouldn't have made the trade. |

Manning is not as good as Schenn is and may never be. And I would not want to see Manning replace Schenn.

Many of us had a big problem with the trade for all the reasons I've mentioned. It may not be an exact science, but there was lots of evidence available at the time of the trade for all of us to form an opinion on it. Many of us aren't surprised at the level Luke plays at now including me. There is no Monday morning quarterback here as much as you want to make it out to be. You have no leg to stand on, just because Luke Schenn hasn't panned out to be a steady defenseman, doesn't let the Flyers off the hook in making a poor decision. |
