gonna have to disagree here - -davies-
Yeah. I'm pretty sure all of those teams' fans were criticized. People still give the Isles, Devils and Pens a lot of poop. |

#Flyers' line of Raffl-G-Voracek has 35 pts., _ 2nd in #NHL to #Stars' Seguin-Spezza-Benn (38). |

Probably as soon as CC is officially activated, unless they waive Akeson.
Edit: I'd hate for them to send Akeson down, but it seems like Berube has no confidence in him whatsoever and will only dress him if he has to. - BiggE
Colaiacovo has already been added to the roster.

That's not true. His potential was there. Players don't always meet their potential. Real easy to sit back now and say see, Nick Schultz is really just as good. Fact of the matter is that it's not an exact science. And if the Flyers thought that Schenn wasn't going to progress, they wouldn't have made the trade. - MJL
Many of us had a big problem with the trade for all the reasons I've mentioned. It may not be an exact science, but there was lots of evidence available at the time of the trade for all of us to form an opinion on it. Many of us aren't surprised at the level Luke plays at now including me. There is no Monday morning quarterback here as much as you want to make it out to be. You have no leg to stand on, just because Luke Schenn hasn't panned out to be a steady defenseman, doesn't let the Flyers off the hook in making a poor decision. |

When the Panthers are the Quebec Nordiques it'll be a lot harder to get the Florida split. - Jsaquella
I was working in Quebec this summer and saw the new arena from the outside.. looks really nice and it's in a good area. I hope they do get a team back and I want them to call them the Nordiques again. |

The Nordiques/Canadians rivalry was epic. It'd be great to renew that again. |

Why move this post from the other thread? What happened is that you guessed. You also wanted Coburn traded just to trade him, because you declared him a bad defenseman also. That is the evidence that it was just tossing darts blindfolded. And it absolutely is monday morning quarterbacking. Schenn is a good player, but he just hasn't improved much, and doesn't look like he's going to be anything more then what he is now. So they still have a good player, although not the player they would hope he would become. |

Agreed. I think it will pick up where it left off even if the new Nordiques suck at the beginning. Dimes to dollars Roy ends up either coaching or managing some aspect of that team before all is said and done. |

It's unlikely he keeps up this pace, but I think he'll have the best season of his career. That line is really churning out the points. They still have some defensive miscues, but they're significantly outscoring the few mistakes they've made. |

Playing well offensively, but it is imperative that both Giroux and Voracek play better defensively. |

It was a questionable value trade at the time and in hindsight it's a terrible deal. They traded a 30 goal, first line winger and got back an inconsistent third pair guy who has shown flashes and is unlikely to reach even more modest potential expected after a solid lockout season in 2012 |

Thing is too, they have churned out the points vs some of the top teams during this killer Oct sched. Never any easy wins, but they might do even better now that the sched eases up. Bodes well IMO. |

At the time of the trade, JVR was also an inconsistent player. I think JVR is a good player that is highly overrated. It remains to be seen if he can consistently play at a high level. And also have to look at the needs of the team at the time. And while it certainly looks like Luke Schenn is not going to reach the potential that they thought he had. He's still a solid defensive defenseman. What's done is done.

They needed a dman, and I'm sure they thought that a change of scenery would help Luke. Ended up being a terrible trade and the issue I had even at the time was 1 for 1? It should have been like JVR for Luke and a 2nd or a decent player.. (Gardiner may have be too much) but dear God.. not 1 for 1. |

I don't believe Van Reimsdyke value at the time was worth more then that. Or high enough to get an additional asset. |

My feeling was that he was still young and improving. Obviously the org wasn't high on him at all. Just frustrated me at the time that we traded the 2nd overall pick in 07 after he spend his time here developing. He was injured the season before the trade, and IMO there were enough flashes of his skill and solid play that I expected to get more for him. |

I understand that. But the same could be said for Luke Schenn at the time. That he was a young and improving defenseman. And there were enough flashes of Schenn at that point to think that he could become a top minute defenseman. And with the needs of the team at the time, it made sense. It just hasn't worked out as well as the Flyers had hoped. That happens in this business.

What they should've done is moved JVR's ass out west, so they wouldn't have to see this crap and play him four times a season, more if they meet in they playoffs
I admire the Flyers for trading with anybody, anytime. Good for them.
But there's a reason why guys like Lou Lamoriello don't trade within the division. Unless you truly think that JVR was gonna bust, then just do what Peter Chiarelli did when they soured on Seguin: Move him to the other conference. |
