Tonight was frustrating because while Florida's really not a brutal team, when you look as feeble as the Flyers did, Hextall has to be asking himself some hard questions here

It's one thing for L4 to be brutal. Fine. Other teams have brutal fourth lines, too

But L2 and L3 (offensively) just cannot continue like this. Neither can PP2.

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek and PP1 can't carry this team. I don't know what it's going to take to get any kind of consistency AND production on L2 and L3, but running that mix of six-seven players out there hasn't been getting the job done

There's a lot of potential factors. The line juggling. The Flyers coming out flat and skating like they had two points in the bank. Florida did a good job defensively.

As far as the lines go, my issue isn't putting Vinny back on L2. My issue is juggling all three none Giroux lines. They looked out of sync and really off kilter.

Did that affect their intensity? Possibly, but for whatever reasons, they didn't have the intensity that they used to beat Pittsburgh, Detroit and Los Angeles. I'm not going to beat the lines to death, but for whatever reason they had no intensity at the start

Mason was a bit leaky on the first goal-not that it was in any way, shape or form his fault, but he was stellar besides. It was encouraging o see after a week of no games.

SNL trying to outdo the Flyers for worst performance of the night.

A incredibly stupid, completely unfunny ISIS skit followed by a skit with no jokes, actors flubbing lines and an actor leaving the scene coming back and standing there for 10 seconds before remembering their lines.

It's L2 and L3 as a whole -- not just tonight. Even when Schenn-Bellemare-Simmonds were buzzing and playing with pace, the goals weren't really coming, and while I have no issue with how Umberger-Couturier-Read were playing defensively -- and it's hard to score when you start in the d-zone as much as they did -- that's no excuse for them to be this rancid on PP2

Bottom line to me is this: This is a production business. At some point, you have to score goals if you're on a scoring line, at a rate consistent with your experience level and peers.

Giroux and Voracek, along with Raffl, are clearly doing that.

When Simmonds is on fire, he looks like he can't be stopped. But when he isn't, there's just nothing coming out of L2, and PP2...man.

At some point, those 6-7 players have to score goals at ES. Read, Schenn, Simmonds, whoever else, have got to start doing more at ES

Agreed. They have to be better, as a whole, at 5 on 5.

Simmonds is a good player, but he needs to be on a line or with a line mate who has speed and playmaking ability. He's not a guy that can always drive play himself, but he can cash in his opportunities.

Read's been off this season. He's a step slow or just missing his shot or whatever. Needs to pick it up.

I liked what they were getting from the Schenn, Bellemare, Simmonds line, and even the Couturier, Read and Umberger line. They were playing solidly, generating possession, for the most part, and even producing a bit of offense.

I'm with you. The line juggling, IMO, played a role in their issues tonight. Not the only factor, but yeah, I think it was an issue.

That said, 5 on 5 play has been an issue for a few years. It's not a new animal in this zoo.
