Akeson as well. - Just5
Akeson isn't a scapegoat. He's a fan favorite. Based on 7 games.

I didn't think about the derogatory slur thing. I was envisioning Staal pushing him to a point of tearful agony |

It still fell under the bullying label according to the OHL. |

Agreed. Read has not seemed like himself. He's a bit streaky, and always has been, but he has not played very well.
To me, the usage and line combos have been an issue. In the 4 games preceeding last night, the Flyers had outscored Pittsburgh, Detroit, LA and TB at ES 14-8. The only game where they didn't play a fairly even game in terms of shots and chances was the Detroit game. They weren't great at ES, but they were at least playing solidly and not getting killed at ES.
Last night, Vinny returns, gets paired with Umberger & Simmonds, Bellemare drops from the line with Schenn & Simmonds to play with Rinaldo & vandeVelde and Schenn takes Umberger's spot with Couturier & Read. The result? The only line that created chances and drove play was the Raffl-Giroux-Voracek line. - Jsaquella

Flyers have been a subpar team all season at 5 on 5 play. No matter what change Berube has made, line wise, he has been criticized for it. Did anyone honestly think that Lecavalier wasn't going to return?
And I recall Berube was criticized for not leaving some lines together long enough to create chemistry, such as leaving Schenn on the top line longer. Now after one game, criticized for changing lines. Lots of double standards going on.

We can discuss why it was a horrible idea to shuffle the lines and have that become 16 pages of that |

Anyone remember Read's linemates his rookie year?
When he's in position to snipe he can burry them with best. Seems like he never gets the puck in those spots anymore though. |

He might as well. He had lines that were playing effectively for four straight games, one guy comes back and he juggles 3 of the 4. |

With the Flyers losing the shot differential battle in all but 4 games, and one of them, against Pittsburgh, they barely were on the + side of 50%, it makes sense to look for different combinations. Even more so when a player is coming back into the lineup from injury.

I guarantee at some point he will take Raffl off the top line and replace him with Umberger. This will continue for far too long |

BTN says most frequent linemates were Simmer and Briere. |

Last 4 games before the Florida game, the Flyers Corsi% was 50.82 against Pittsburgh. 26.15% against Detroit, 46.73% against LA, and 38.78% against TB. |

Both, but it's more an indictment of Berube. - Jsaquella
Thought so, but the posts seem to lean more heavily on why Rinaldo shouldn't be in the lineup based on his obvious deficiencies. But Rinaldo is only doing what he's directed to do so why is there so much venom being spewed his way? He certainly doesn't make out the lineup card.
He is what he is and is most likely executing the role Berube laid out for him, if not, I'm assuming/hoping he'd be in the Cote Suite. To me, that poses two disturbing questions...
One, does Berube actually think Rinaldo is effective in whatever role he's been given and if so...
Two, why does Berube continually think Rinaldo playing that role would positively effect the outcome of a game?

If they could get Read going on one of the wings it would be huge. No reason why he cant pot 25 a year if they get him the puck. |

Shots over last 4 games:
Flyers 33 Penguins 25
Flyers 17 Red Wings 37
Flyers 43 Kings 40
Flyers 27 Lightning 32
Yes, they got heavily outshot against Detroit, but outshot the Pens and Kings and had only 5 fewer SOG than Tampa and Tampa had a 5-2 PP advantage in the game. So once again, facts don't jibe with opinions. - Jsaquella
Corsi is based on attempted shots, not shots on goal. Do you no longer believe in analytics and Corsi as a measure of 5 on 5 play and puck possession? |
