It's so hard right now to get a feel for what's wrong with Read -- is he simply expending so much energy each shift defensively, that's he just not getting to spots?
L3 has it tough, without a doubt. But my worry with Read is that he really doesn't seem to be locked into any particular aspect of the game offensively -- I don't really see him carrying the puck, setting anyone up, getting into positions to shoot...it's been tough watching it, because the only thing worse than scoring is looking like you just aren't going to score. - AllInForFlyers
Read (& Couturier, for that matter) and still getting insanely high D-Zone starts, which isn't going to help.
There's still execution issues, as well. The Flyers still spend a ton of time chasing the puck because they're not doing especially well in transition. |

I do think that we don't have the best read on this team until Coburn and MacDonald get back -- maybe that will help ease some of the strain on L3, as well. Improved puck movement and ability on the back end can't hurt.
Hope that Del Zotto keeps it up...can't remember the last time I saw Coliacovo play, because he was the Blues' seventh D last year and I didn't see him play hardly at all. Hope he has a little left in the tank, too -- if he can even still make a first pass, that will help. Tough to transition when the puck's two feet in front or two feet behind or in your skates a lot

No, it's not the best read at all, because they are still maddeningly inconsistent. Just like they have been the last two or three seasons.
I don't think the return of Coburn or MacDonald will ease the load on Couturier & Read, because they had similar usage last season when they had a healthy Timonen and Coburn all season.
Colaiacovo was signed just so they can avoid having to recall a AHLer once everyone is healthy. Hextall is adamant about having the kids play in the AHL until he feels they're ready. He's said as much and he's made moves to ensure that is what happens.

Akeson has played 17 total games in the NHL. 7 came in the playoffs against a very good defensive team and 8 have come on the 4th line with subpar linemates. Thats plenty of time and opportunity to determine the player isn't good enough away from the puck and doesn't try hard enough. It isn't enough time to determine whether he's a good possession player though. I saw him play 2 games in the top 6 in his career and he had one goal and one assist and finished as a +3. Those things don't matter though because he hasn't turned Rinaldo into a 30 goal scorer with 5 minutes of ice time per night. It's not like this team could use a player who is good with the puck on his stick either. We have elite puck handlers on this team. Our second PP unit is made up of 5 of them. VDV and Rinaldo bring so much more. They don't kill penalties, they don't create offense and they need to be shielded, but they can hit people and they always try their hardest. You know what they say: trying wins Cups. - PhillySportsGuy[/quote}

Yeah, I was wrong on the corsi numbers. Guess I shouldn't do half assed research while helping my kids build props for a birthday party.

Unless they ask you to dress up as Harry Potter you are happy to assist. But it won't help you stay out of the penalty box. |

Nope. The most I'm doing is handing out slices of cake and lighting candles during the actual party. |
