I would have said Maatta up until I read about the tumor he has. I hope everything goes well, but it's scary anytime the C word comes into play.
To think Maatta has played 101 NHL games including playoffs before Laughton has made his NHL debut.
When the Flyers were ready to select I was licking my chops and thought for sure Maatta would be the selection. Best available on the board + a position of need. - PLindbergh31
Scary, but from what I've heard & read, very treatable |

If they lose the next 7 games can I go back to my Tankadelphia posts? - mayorofangrytown
Yes. I'd like to hear about Ghost being a bust as well. He's 21 and he couldn't cut it in the NHL. If he's not here now, he's never going to make it. |

Hey you just said he was being moved for a conditional 7th rounder!
i was merely being friendly and telling you that you could in fact do better - stayinthefnnet

yeah it is a scary thing.
it is crazy that he wasnt even the first defender they picked that year. he has made a lot of casual fans largely forget about pouliot. - stayinthefnnet
Maatta is already very good. Provided he's healthy he's got a great future. Wish he was a Flyer. |

You know it's a Flyers Fan kinda day when you're debating whether you would rather have a fourth line of Rosehill-Hall-Rinaldo or Rinaldo-Bellemare-VandeVelde, when you are using the fact that Adam Hall wasn't totally useless in making your lean towards having Rosehill - AllInForFlyers
I think the "which immobile defenseman should sit when Braydon Coburn is ready" debate will be much more interesting when Coburn returns.

yeah i understand. i think our evaluations of the respective players are pretty fair and reasonable.
it definitely is a debate worthy hockey trade offer, dare i say refreshing for this site. - stayinthefnnet
I think a move like that would really hurt the chances of the Flyers making the playoffs. Their PK, checking line and 4th line would all get worse due to that trade. |

Good move switching Lecavalier to the 2nd PP unit. He just doesn't look comfortable getting the puck in the middle of the box on the first unit. Plus the 2nd unit needs a shooter. |

Incidentally, it is funny sometimes what you can pick up on video that you miss when watching the game live (even from the pressbox). Going back to the aforementioned Dallas game, watch the subtle hook that Jamie Benn applies to Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann near the net -- more visible on the reverse angle replay than full speed -- to create room for eventual goal scorer Daley.

I don't even know what you do with it, anymore -- I have never seen anything like Sean Couturier's usage before in my life, and the Flyers have shackled Matt Read to him

Right this second? Maatta. He's a second year NHLer who has shown no evidence of a sophomore slump and plays a position of need. Let's see where they are in 5 years - Jsaquella
I agree, I thought when Maatta fell to #20 it was a blessing and they'd take him. Still feel like that but I also liked Laughton and need to wait for it to play out. |

I'm glad MDZ has established himself in Coburn's absence. When Amac and Coburn return, it will be between Schenn and Schultz. |

it would certainly not be a move that benefits the flyers this year. that is for sure.
but given that prospect, it would get a higher draft pick, so those of you clamoring for tank nation should find favor. |

They needed to limit his minutes and undercut his confidence by keeping him up "day to day" (who says that about a prospect?) so that we couldn't see how good he is. Now that Manning looked better than half our regular D in limited minutes we had to sign some broken down guy to increase the other team's goal scoring chances because, hey, a guy who's played a handful of games in the last couple years is waaaaaaay better than any of our prospects.
Wonder how long before Coburn is back on the shelf? If he plays decent Hextall wiil be spraying body wash on the shower floors midway through the third.

They are saying something similar in Toronto. When Lupul returns it will be between Van Riemsdyk and Ashton. |

There's a lot of that kind of subtle interference going on these days... rarely see it called.
IMO they should just allow standing picks, like hoops. |

I was all about the tank train until I watched Buffalo take it to a whole new level. They might very well rival the Sixers in their commitment to tanking. The Flyers couldn't tank that bad if they tried. |
