Forward lines: 12-28-93, 18-40-17, 10-14-24,36-78-76. Extra skaters are Akeson and Jones, being mixed in.

In other words, barring a change at morning skate tomorrow, looks like same Flyers lineup except Colaiacovo in and Manning out. Mason in net - MBFlyerfan
Not happy, nor am I surprised in the least. Berube is nothing if not stubborn. |

Its about principle. Akeson is a piece of poop as well. However I'd like to know the head coach understands that giving a kid with room to grow to develop is more important than playing a turd like Rinaldo/VDV.
Which means playing that kid more than 5 minutes a game with decent linemates.
Berube's time is running out though, I have no doubt about that. Is what it is. Just have to wait for the day. - flyer_nutter
Akeson played well in the playoff series against the Rags. One of the few Flyers who did actually. He hasn't been given a chance to build upon that this season. When he plays, he's on a line with non-skilled players. Berube's square peg/round hole theories.
VDV couldn't stick on an awful Oilers roster a few years ago, but he's becoming a regular here. Awesome! |

Rinaldo-Bellemare-Akeson looked pretty decent in preseason and early on this year. But I guess Berube wants to try and get Rinaldo a third game in a row with zero shot attempts. |

Its alright. About +5C, 41F lately. Very decent for November. Broke my scrape brush for the car window last year and forgot to buy a new one. Couple days this week scraping the ice off with a credit card. |

Because I don't think they have been ineffective. They go out and do their job. Get in on the forecheck, battle hard on the wall, are better skaters, bring some speed and provide a little grit if needed. I would be all for sitting one in favor of Akeson but he hasn't shown anything to even earn being a regular. Yes he has more skill. But that skill means nothing if he can't battle for the puck. Also he isn't doing anything to even suggest that he should be pushed ahead of anyone else in the top 9. Guys like Raffl and PEB got a chance because they did things they had too in the limited minutes they got on the 4th line. - J35Bacher
Agreed. I would be ecstatic is Akeson could provide that, along with some added puck skill to the lineup. It would make the Flyers a better team. But he simply isn't playing well enough. It's on Akeson, not the coach. |

I don't get too worked up. Most of this crew, and Akeson probably included wont be around here in a few years anyway. Berube will be a part of that exorcism of impotence.

I was only in Winnipeg once, we spent a night there on our way to see the Polar bears up in Churchill. Thought that shopping area by the river was pretty cool, had a good burger and a couple beers at a sports bar there.

The Forks (what you state) is nice. Depends what kind of lifestyle you are into. If big city lights and big plastic tits are your forte. Then travel on. Good for outdoors as you can be in middle of nowhere 30 minutes outside city limits.
Winters blow. City is fast becoming little Manila with the immigration but that's Canada. |

Berube isn't long for this job imo. Hextall didn't hire him. Usually when a new GM comes in they get to pick their coach. |

I did not back read so apologies if this has already been mentioned.
I'm all for using Akeson on the 2nd PP unit, his natural skill set is perfect use there.
I would not take Couts off the PP though to play Akeson.
I do think the PP time is a reward for Couts as he has done all the heavy lifting shutting down the other team's best lines. He is getting very little starts in the offensive zone. He really has earned his spot on the PP based in his 5 on 5 play.
But absolutely get Akeson there on the half boards. Couts could play a point I suppose or down low.
Also Get VLC off the first PP unit, Schenn is a better fit.

It's not even really Akeson, but the mindset that a guy who is physical or "works" hard or is bigger gets more of a shot than a smaller guy who doesn't have as much of a physical element to his game.
Akeson is just the latest. Gustafsson dealt with the same issues. And maybe they will be guys that never crack a NHL line-up regularly. But give them a shot, by using them in roles they might be good at. |
