Anytime you are behind the Leafs in the standings you are in trouble.

At the moment (subject to change) I dont see Ryan being remotely arsed that he is an NHL player. This worries me. We spent so much on him. We need him to produce. He could be a major flop and a reason we get laughed at.

Also I believed (I think it was Calsen or GardenSen, sorry) that Karlsson could get 100 points this year. I think I was wrong.

Anyway, all I know is we have the best group of players under the age of 25 in the NHL, so I am sure we will win a cup in the next 4-5 years.

My hope is Arizona poops the bed all year and picks number 1. I don't want buffalo, Carolina, Edmonton or Calgary getting him.
- ClarksonDavid

I;d be quite happy with Calgary getting him.

Edmonton I guess would be OK, but with getting so many first overall picks arleady, doesn't seem right for htem to get him.

If Phoenix is going to blow it up Vermette would be an awesome addition to Ottawa - his faceoff percentage and speed is exactly what we need.

Phoenix: Smith, Hoffman, 2nd 2015
Ott: Vermette

What the (frank) is wrong with you?

You wanna trade a guy who looks better than Vermette at the same age only without the faceoff skill, is younger and on an entry level, a 2nd rounder, and Smith who is probably about even in value with Vermette ANYWAY, for Antoine Vermette?

45 points a season Antoine Vermette?

Soft as butter, rarely even plays a full season Antoine Vermette?

Where does he even fit? we have 5 NHL centers already on the team.....

[quote=sensano]I agree - I think there is some dead-weight that I would love to ship out. That said, I'm not sure who would want our Grybas and Greenings...even at bargain basement pricing. /quote]

Gryba leads the team in plus minus at +5, and led the defense at +9 last season. He ain't pretty, his stats just look that way. Why would you want to get rid of a guy who does nothing but be on the ice for more even strength goals for than against, and can whoop some ace on a generally soft blue line?

If they're going to trade a defenseman it's either going to be Weircioch or Methot (due to contract negotiations).

I don't think he's lighting anything up but he is a young Dman in the Select League - we had Rundblad win Dman of the year in that league and be the #1 prospect in hockey and outside of his games in Ottawa when they were showcasing him he's played 36 NHL games in 5 years and has Zero goals.

Jacob Silfverberg as well has 5 assists this season, he's playing about 13-14 minutes a night and I think he was Selects player of the year the year after Rundblad. They even had a chant for him.

No point to this other then Ottawa sells Select MVP's very high and ges better assets in return and Select league success means nothing in the NHL.

"SEL" stands for Swedish Elite League, not "select league", it's not a nintendo button.

Defense Breakdown

Erik Karlsson is the #1 dman by miles but the Captain doesn't look quite elite right now. He is great offensively but defensively [from what I see] he needs to pick his spots, be more confident defensively, and not try to take on too much. I don't blame him with Jared Cowen [not playing up to potential] and Marc Methot [not playing]. Methot needs to get resigned at 5 years @$4.9 or I'd trade him. Why? 30D in the entire league are that big of a cap hit. Methot isn't a top 30Dman. I'd rather trade him [don't like it] and target another Dman.

With the emergence of Mark Boroweici as a reliable, stable defensive force on the blue line that means Weircioch or Cowen have to step their game up to fill that top 4 Dman role. When Methot is back, Gryba is 7th Dman. I'm not a fan of his and wish we had a pairing right handed shot; preferably who could move the puck better

[Vacant] - Karlsson
[Vacant] - Ceci
Boroweici - Phillips

Trade Bait: Methot, Cowen, Weircioch -- Prospects: Claesson, Englund
