No chance of Del Zotto sitting. I'd personally go with Schenn, when everyone is back. - MJL

Del Zotto has been arguably our best all situations d-man... as his TOI would indicate. There is no chance he sits.
I would like to agree with you on Schenn, but sitting him long term is not ideal. Trade him or use him. I think CC will actually be the one to sit. - jak521
When everyone is back, two will have to sit. |

This is exactly why I think "leadership" is overblown. The fact that the Flyers are just not that great of a team has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more to do with their struggles than Grioux et al not "getting everyone going" - NickTheKid87
I don't care what kind of talent or how good your team is. If you don't show up to play, you're going to get beat by a lesser team in a lot of cases. The Florida game is a perfect example of that. |

Del Zotto has quietly been the best d-man on the team outside of the NJ game.
Its not stiff competition but he has been a bright spot. - GOA88
I am sure he has been stiff with the porn stars |

"Lack of leadership," "getting outworked," "poor chemistry" and all the other intangible excuses that are used for a team that executes poorly and has a less-than-stellar compliment of players is people simplifying a complex issue. - NickTheKid87
No it's not a complex issue. It is actually separate issues. |

As would I, but we all know Berube's inclination toward bigger bodies being given a longer rope to hang themselves with than the smaller, more skilled ones - aantny88
I don't beleive that inclination exists. |

All those thing can be summed up easily with "lack of talent". |

This doesn't happen with the first unit very often...more times than not, they are generating good chances and then the 2nd unit comes on and it looks like a Chinese fire drill. - aantny88
Streit, Giroux, Lecavalier, and Voracek, are all in the top 20 in the NHL in icetime per game on the PP. |

They didn't get beat and outplayed by Florida due to a lack of talent. With Florida missing 5 of their top forwards, and playing a defenseman at LW. So saying that it can be summed up by a lack of talent, is obviously false. |

Talented teams can not bring their top game and still roll the lower teams in the league. Pittsburgh has been playing that way for years during the regular season. The Flyers have to play a disciplined hard working grind it out game like New Jersey to win since they don't have the talent. The problem is the Flyers players don't have the discipline or work ethic to play that way shift in shift out while a team like New Jersey specifically drafts players with work ethic for that system. Also being able to recognize defense and goaltending talent helps New Jersey which the Flyers have not shown an ability to draft or develop either position. |

Lack of effort could be the case. I think they need a " shake up". A trade would be my choice. The GM gets paid to build the best team possible. IMO this team can be improved with a solid trade. |

The great thing about the NHL is that any team can win on any given night. Some nights one team will play better, even if they're the lesser team on paper. They'll execute better, win more battles, etc. But for sustained success, you need a roster with players that compliment one another in addition to being talented, a system that plays to the roster's strengths, good team-wide execution and then the intangibles to a lesser extent. The Flyers don't have a talented roster with complimentary players, their system is fine more or less, the team-wide execution blows which is also related to the talent and roster. All of this is why they lose games on the reg more so than lack of leadership. |

So what you're saying is that the Flyers can't beat a lower team if they don't bring their top game? I agree with you. Which is why it's a big problem for the team that they don't play with urgency and effort to start games. It's the biggest single issue this team has.
Another thing that happens in this league is teams like Florida, and a team like Ottawa in the past years are competitive againt more talented teams, because of their work ethic. |

I really think its lack of execution. If a d-man makes a bad clearing pass (like Schenn did the other night) it can lead to a team being hemmed in their own zone. When you chase the puck, its exhausting. Failed clears, bad passes, poor neutral zone play are all a result of poor execution. It makes a team look slow and disinterested. Its really infuriating.
Watch the 4th line tonight. They will OOZE heart, hard work, dedication, grit etc... but they will struggle to execute. That is the ultimate problem. |

I wonder who sits when Coburn returns? Will it be whipping boy L. Schenn or journeyman DelZotto? - aantny88
L. Schenn was a top 5 draft pick, he's in his 7th year in the NHL and not only has his development stagnated, but he's regressed. How exactly is he a whipping boy? He's the 6th dman on an patchwork defense core. |
