If anyone is a huge Batman fan like me (1960's show) is it me, or does Berube look like the villain False Face?

My issue is more using a guy in a role that he's ill-suited for and expecting him to play well in it. People are critical of Akeson's play this season when he's being used in a role that he's not well suited for.
All this season has told me about Jason Akeson is that he's not going to be an effective energy line player. It says absolutely nothing about his ability to be an effective third line player who can bring offense. - Jsaquella
Yeah that too. I agree, the logic behind a lot of the criticism is suspect. |

That's why I don't immediately buy into the whole "player isn't playing well & the coach has no option" school of thought. That's not to say Akeson has played well, because he hasn't. I get that part of it.
But here's the thing, I had a pretty good idea as far back as this summer that Akeson with Rinaldo and a player like Adam Hall or Chris VandeVelde wasn't going to be really effective.
I'd be fine with a decision in this situation where Akeson sat. It'd be to move Bellemare up to the Raffl slot and continue with VandeVelde and Rinaldo-since they have supposedly played so well-and another winger, like Jones or call up from the Phantoms, because Akeson will be ineffective there. |

He only had one good preseason game.
He could learn bad habits playing in the NHL with top professionals.
Can't play him out of position and Bellemare is the 4th line center.
No one was ever ruint playing extra time in the AHL.
Despite the current season and number of injuries it's better for the "Flyers in the long run" to patch with cast offs than bring up prospects.

I've been busy all last evening and today, with very little time to deviate from the work I was doing. I only knew the Flyers won last night. Nothing else.
So the first time I got to check anything hockey related was just now, when I came to HB.
So, under that premise, think about what your response would be to seeing the phrase "Vandevelde to the top line."
Yep. I just said "(frank) me," and started laughing out loud |

Love Berube's idea to put a career 4th line/AHL tweener on a line with our 2 best offensive players.
Maybe Pittsburgh can put Craig Adams on a line with Crosby and Kunitz. Or Anaheim can put Tim Jackman on a line with Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. - jmatchett383
This is the kind of quality sarcasm I better be reading for the rest of this thread, to the degree where everybody must be sarcasm'd out, because, again, this is the phrase I just read after nearly 19 hours of work and 4 hours of sleep:
"VandeVelde to top line"
You folks had best be making me laugh like that post |

"Get him a splint gods dammit! Get that man a splint and get him out there! He just has to go from point to point. That's all that line needs... a straight line player"

Not sure how that can be. Is anyone going to say that a puck battle or a race for a loose puck is different playing on the 4th line versus a scoring line?
As if Akeson is along the wall in a puck battle, and he says to himself, "hmm, I'm not suited for this 4th line role, so therefore, I can't compete for this loose puck"! "However, if I was on the 3rd line, I could get in there and mix it up! "
A puck battle on the 4th line is the same as it is on the 3rd line. Playing competitively is the same on the 4th line as it is on the 3rd line.
And trust me, Akeson is not a healthy scratch because he was expected to bring offense to the 4th line, and failed to do so. He's a healthy scratch because he hasn't competed to the same level he did last season.

Akeson isn't a healthy scratch because that line was ineffective. He's a healthy scratch because he was ineffective.
