Kris Newbury was not always 32. He was once a younger player. I'll make my point clearer. Just because a player can put up high point totals in the AHL, doesn't automatically make him a prospect. And as some point, a middle of the pack prospect such as Akeson, can get to the point where he is no longer a prospect, and just a call up or part time AHL/NHL player. Or just an AHL player.

There's definitely the smell of bias. Even if it's not intentional or by design. Rinaldo is a primary example of a guy who got chance after chance, despite repeated undisciplined play and dumb penalties.

It's simply what a coach is willing to put up with, and work around. He's obviously willing to put up with some growing pains, and some bad penalties and undisciplined play, as long as the player is battling and competing out there. Right or wrong. He's obviously not willing to put up with a player such as Akeson, who has some skill, but is simply not playing competitive hockey. Either in games or in practice. That's not a bias, or if it is, it's a bias against non competitive players. Which is a bias every coach should have.

A borderline NHL/AHL gets to play on the 1st line to keep balance on the 4th line.
8 games is enough time to judge what a player will be in his career.
The coach is always right and doesn't play favorites.
