Short time to think about it. Need those mobile two way defenseman. There is nothing wrong with MacDonald's deal. - MJL
I think his deal sucks. I think it handcuffs the team if we're really serious about finding a number one defenseman. Streit's deal too. I don't think MacDonald's offensive game is that great. It's good but not even on the same level Carle was on. |

We will only get a #1 dman thru the draft. No team who has one is trading them to us.
Zero data for Corsi close for that line. - MJL
Yes, and Vinny and Umberger's Off. Zone Start % were very low. Bascially 10%. |

Well I disagree that his deal sucks. And I also don't think it handcuffs them in any way.

I think he is part of that future. No reason why he can't remain productive throughout the contract. You can't just have a defense of all rookies. - MJL
lol it wouldn't be all rookies.. It would be trading him next year to make room for one rookie (Ghost) and only if he deserves a spot in the NHL. I'm not saying trade him and just hand Ghost a roster spot.
And if Ghost does make the leap next year, in 2-3 years he is no longer a rookie so if another prospect is ready to come up it still wouldn't be a defense of all rookies. |

And I don't think you understand the point I'm trying to make.
I think the long term value of the assets you could potentially get by trading Streit now and the spot it opens up 2-3 years from now is more valuable to me than getting 1 to 2 more years of ok to good play from him. I'm not saying he's played poorly and getting rid of him will improve the current team. I just think our eyes should be more towards the future than present.
Edit: I shouldn't say by trading Streit now but instead next year IF Ghost makes the leap. - Roytastic
Realistically, Streit will be here till at least the end of the 15-16 season. If Ghost makes the team next year he can play the 2nd PP unit with MDZ or MacDonald. |

I wouldn't trade Streit to make room for Gostisbehere. Don't need to.

On Tuesday the 18-40-17 line did fairly well in shot attempts.
The 18-40-76 line did very poorly tonight. - Feanor
36-78-42 were terrific, tons of zone time, multiple chances.
No surprise that 28-93 didn't get into the game until after 76 was bumped off... instant chemistry w/ 17.
10-14-24 had a great 1st... high hopes for that line.
18-40-76 were a dumpster fire outside of a couple of good looks. The puck just hates them. |

Andrew MacDonald never did anything to earn a 5 million dollar deal. Last season he had a career high of 28 points. The last time he had anything remotely close to this was 27 points three seasons ago. If he earned this five million long term deal, I missed when. |

Disagree that there was instant chemistry with Simmonds on the top line. He didn't look comfortable at all on the left side. I'd put him back with Lecavalier.
The Lecavalier line also was not a dumpster fire. |

Points are the only way to earn a deal? I disagree with you. MacDonald earned his deal because he is a very good all around defenseman, who was going to be a free agent.

Not Schultz. Schultz defends well, but doesn't move the puck as well. - MJL
He's been a surprisingly consistent puck mover so far... lot of snappy outlets, and he skates nearly as well as AMac. He's a better 1v1 defender, and stronger to boot.
He was a bonafide top-4 guy before EDM ruined him... who knows, maybe he can sustain this level of play. |

Brooks Orpik career high of 25 points came in 09-10 and he got 5 years at $5.5m. And he's 34. |

So could MJL. There is no need to trade a proven vet for an unproven rookie. mark Streit has a lifetime of experience and still going strong, Gostisbehere has two games |

I mean you're right. They should trade one of the top PP QB defenseman in the league who is currently 4th among all defenseman in points in the league. Who last year scored 44 points from the back end, without top unit PP time. And was in the top 10 among all defenseman in ES scoring last year, because they don't need him.

I thought VDV looked ok there on the first shift but it just kinda went down hill from there and he definitely started to look out of place. I'm glad Berube decided to slide Simmer up there because he's just looked disinterested the last few games. Hopefully this can get him going.
I agree with the Couts line. I've been wanting Schenn to have a shot there for a while. I think those 3 could be the Flyers 2nd line for years to come. |

He can make the routine pass, but he's not in the class of MacDonald as a puck mover. And he's not a better 1 on 1 defender. He may be stronger. You drastically underrate MacDonald as a player, just as you did Streit last year when he came to the Flyers.

Irregardless of that, had some jump tonight. Good to see that.
