He's coming off missing an entire season, and he's missing games in the first week the following season. Translation. He's Cal Ripken redux.
- PLindbergh31

He's been practicing. He hasn't missed a game. They said they may keep him out tonight for precautionary reasons.

With the emergence of Del Zotto, when everyone is back and healthy, the Flyers have a solid defense group. They'll be getting back 2 top defenseman in Coburn and MacDonald. And one of the best parts about Del Zotto's emergence, is that they won't have to overplay MacDonald 23-24 minutes a game. They can play him 20 minutes a game, like he should be playing.

I wonder if Del Zotto is the sort that just plays better the more minutes he gets. I actually thought that of Schenn. of course one could say if you are playing better you will get more mins.

Might be, but I really think the biggest thing was that he lost his mojo! He just needed to get his confidence back. He lost it somehow in NY, and couldn't find it in Nashville. For whatever reason he has it back here. Always thought he was very good with the puck, but what's even more impressive is how he is defending right now. Not really a big guy, but very competitive. I think we're going to see even more out of him, in the future.

I read that Brayden Coburn might be healthy enough to play tomorrow.

Just some conflicting feelings. Carlo Colaiacovo has looked pretty good so far but I wouldn't have signed him to begin with. In my opinion Brandon Manning never looked bad enough to take out of the line up to begin with. With this said, I like Luke Schenn a lot. I don't think he's not nearly as bad as some believe or want to believe. With this said, if Coburn can go, I'd put him in and sit Schenn. Tomorrow is a good time against a bad team.

Streit and Del Zotto on the PK is huge.

CC immediately looked way more comfortable than Ghost or Manning did. Those are both AHL guys right now, and Manning is never going to be NHL-quality.

Manning is looking more and more like a career minor leaguer, capable of an occasional call up.

I sure hope so, considering Carlo Colaiacovo is an NHL defenseman.

TBH I'm still amazed the Flyers have won any games with Coburn and Amac out.
Especially in October with their schedule.

The play of MDZ has been nothing short of a small miracle.
He was unsigned, unloved and unwanted and now he is playing great offensively and pretty darn good defensively.

Also Grossmann, Streit, and Schultz have really picked up the slack for Coburn and Amac. Luke is still a puzzle, but has really been OK for the most part.

Goaltending has been solid too.

Nice to see Berube getting some kudos today. I suspect that won't last but I think he deserves some praise for getting any wins out of this line up minus Coburn and Amac.

I am a believer in what Hexy is doing.
Schultz looks better then most #7s they have had recently.
The CC pick up was a good move. The guy is a legit NHL player when healthy.
Keep the kids on the farm as long as they need it.

I think it goes hand in hand with confidence. Coach gives you more minutes/more responsibility, you gain confidence from that, and for guys like Schenn and MDZ, it seems to ring true...MDZ looked kind of meh early on, but as he got bigger minutes with the injuries he seemed to relish the opportunity stepped up and gained confidence...I think that same kind of thing was at play with LSchenn a couple seasons ago when top guys went out down the stretch and he played probably his best hockey as a Flyer...now his minutes are reduced on the third pairing and he seems to lack confidence. Sometimes it's kind of a catch 22 because (barring injuries) you don't get the bigger minutes from the coach unless he thinks you're playing well, but you need the confidence to play well and the get bigger minutes. Not sure how Schenn would respond to moving up and playing bigger minutes, but he did respond well before.

I agree and I think to some degree Del Zotto reminds me of Streit. The Flyers are really benefiting from a second offensive-minded defensemen.

And now.. Your Philadelphia Viagra Flyers!

NHL chief operating officer John Collins said in an interview posted Thursday by Sports Business Daily that jersey sponsorship is "coming and happening," though he didn't give any details or a timeframe for when the move may occur.

Playing Schenn against other team's top forwards sounds like a bad idea to me.
- Feanor

I kind of hope they ease Coburn in to start... eventually, would love to see him there w/ MDZ taking on the tough minutes, but simply swapped in for CC would be OK as a first step.

Just curious, but if Coburn and AMac are "top defensemen" than what are Weber, Pietrangelo, Keith, Subban, Suter, McDonagh, Doughty, Chara and OEL.
- BiggE

- JvR isn't anything special, not a star player,
- Luke Schenn is a good player, nothing wrong with him,
- AMac and Coburn are top-defensemen,

I don't get it either.

I'm surprised Thornton and Marleau haven't died of shame/dishonor, yet.

No. San Joke would go 15-0 on their way to the Cup, allow the other team to force a Game 7, and then lose something like 16-2 in Game 7. Because they're the Sharks.

don't forget that those two goals were an early game SJ lead (for added heartbreak)

No, that's the Maple Leafs' M.O. The Sharks are a team that has no heart, so once the ball starts rolling downhill, things go from terrible to more terribler.
