If you could have one of the following to start a team over his entire career, which would you take:
- Superstar center (Crosby, Stamkos, Toews)
- Superstar winger (P. Kane, Perry, Ovechkin)
- Superstar 30-minute defenseman (Weber, Chara, Keith)
- Superstar goalie (Lundqvist, Quick)
Keeping things like salary, health, age, etc. equal, which would you take? - jmatchett383
Stud Center... they are even harder to acquire than the stud D. A stud Center is an absolute must |

Have to take advantage of Colorado tomorrow. I think I read a headline that their implementing new D zone coverages? Didn't expect this team to be a mess out of the gate.
If Coburn is in who do you sit and what are the pairings?
I'd like to see Schenn sit and the MDZ/Schultz pairing remain in tact. |

Berube isn't touching either the 8-32 or 15-55 pairings right now. So it's going to be one of 26 or 22, although that pairing has been good in the two games together.
The big indicator is usually ice time, anyway. Whoever is getting the least ice time is almost always going to be the first one to be scratched when another D man above him in the rotation returns from injury. |

I would take the franchise defenseman as top priority, then the franchise center or goaltender a fraction behind. Lowest priority (but still, of course, great to find) is the franchise winger.

It's amazing how priorities in the NHL swing. For along time a number one center was hard to come by in the league. However they're easy to draft and develop much quicker then a defenseman. Now in recent years defensemen have become priority and teams will overpay to lock them up. |

I'd take a superstar goalie.
I think it's harder to project the NHL career potential for a goalie prospect
than for a forward or winger. So, I'm thinking, if things don't go well early (or even if they do) I could still identify and draft/sign, with some degree of (greater) certainty, the remaining players I would need to assemble a contender. If I got
a chance to add another superstar, it would probably be a center (esp. if Crosby) with a #1 D a hair behind.
Lundqvist was drafted in 2000 at #205. Rick DiPietro went #1 that year. This typifies how hard it can be to project a goalie prospect.
In this fantasy scenario, where you KNOW the player would be a superstar NHL goalie, I think you have to take that. |

Been a fan for so long, I'm almost numb to it
Like when Coburn was practicing, then takes warmups, then announced out for another month
When you're a fan of this franchise, you're used to bad news coming from out of nowhere, whether they're playing or not

Cousins was ejected earlier for boarding and Stortini just took a 5 minute major. If this was the Flyers, I would be so mad right now. Somehow, the Phantoms are winning 3-2 |

Take Morin's broken jaw. Maybe, what...4 or 5 guys get their jaws broken every year? At least, that we hear about?
It's not the Tyrell Goulbournes who break their jaw. It's never Zach Stortini who breaks his jaw. It's never Shjon Podein lying in a Nashville bathtub. It's never Zac Rinaldo with an ankle that isn't stable in a skate boot.
It's always the first-round draft pick and the franchise players or the brightest prospects. Never fails. |

Johns Hopkins was born on May 19, 1795. He was one of eleven children born to Samuel Hopkins (1759–1814) of Crofton, Maryland, and Hannah Janney (1774–1864), of Loudoun County, Virginia. - wilsonecho91[3] His home was Whitehall, a 500-acre (two km²) tobacco plantation in Anne Arundel County.[4] His first name was inherited from his grandfather Johns Hopkins who received his first name when his mother Margaret Johns married Gerard Hopkins.[5]
So I was kind of right in my guess, that johns was a last name originally. |

Man, we had a starting goalie in Jeff Hackett come down with vertigo. He had to retire.
Jonas Hiller gets vertigo with the Ducks? That (frank)er posts a 2.16 GAA and .930 SVPCT so far this season for Calgary.
You just have to laugh, sometimes |
