This is why you don't rush out to swap B Schenn for a dman. He is a young player just starting to come into his own. Heck, I'm sure Columbus is wishing they still had Voracek right about now.
While it may take a few years to rebuild the D, we need to try and stay patient. Even if it takes until 18-19 for some of the young D prospects to make an impact, so what? At that point Couturier is only 25, B. Schenn 26, Voracek 29, Simmonds 30 and Giroux 30. Hopefully by then both Laughton and Aube-Kubel are top 9 forwards and I have faith that the Flyers can draft/trade for or sign a couple more good forwards by then as well. Also Mason would only be 30, which is not old for a starting goalie.
Patience folks, just a little patience. - BiggE
If you are Columbus would you rather have Jake/Coots/Cousins (not that they would have necessarily drafted the latter two), Carter or Johnson? |

Honestly, Luke Schenn and Umberger have played like borderline NHL players this year. At best, Umberger is a 4th liner right now and Schenn is a 3rd pairing dman. It's sickening that this team is paying these players $8M this year AND next year. - PhillySportsGuy
trade them both for Perron!
Oilers get a center and dman to fill their needs.

Only 1 actual ES point. 2 PPA and 1 6v5 G - Tomahawk
Got a chance to watch the game; what was obvious is that he and Umberger are really struggling to keep up with the pace of play. I was stunned to see just where Lecavalier's skating is...tough to watch |

My friend worked in the industry for a few years. He said it's as weird, creepy and disgusting as you'd think. He said everyone is very open about everything though. It took a while getting used to. |

Oh What to do with the hot garbage line? I actually agree with throwing umberger and vinny together, it's like bulk trash pickup. Get it over with in one shot |

It almost felt like VandeVelde-LeCavalier-Umberger were sliding into a checking role last night, while Schenn-Couturier-Read were a second offensive line.

Luke Schenn has been better then a borderline NHL player. He's playing well on the PK, and playing solid hockey lately, but I agree on this team, especially when all the D men come back, he's on the 3rd pair. Umberger just isn't bringing enough offense to the ice. It's a long season. |

You've been watching a different player then I have. He's been skating pretty well. Night and day from last year when he was injured. And he's been making a concerted effort defensively and on the back check this season. Made a number of good defensive plays in last night's game. That line just didn't click offensively. |

They were essentially the 4th-line last night... most of their shifts were against the Thornton/MacKenzie/Kopecky line.
Bellemare's line got a lot of shifts against the Panthers' 1st/2nd lines and ate them for lunch. |

From what I saw last night (which was nothing) Vandevelde looked very good on the top line. - Streit2ThePoint
I didnt think VDV was horrible on the top line. Berube I guess said it has more to do with vinny and umberger not getting Simmonds the puck. Pretty consistent with most of our thoughts last night, which was VDV has been playing better and brings more to the team than vinny or umberger |

Perron's basically their JvR from the Paajarvi trade.
(plus Luke ain't playing too hot himself) - Tomahawk
Man, whatever happened to Paajarvi? I'll admit that I really wanted him last year, though not for what the Blues gave up. But he's fallen off the map. |

I wouldn't touch Lisa Ann w/ a 10-ft pole.

I have no idea why it's taken so long to put those three together. Simmer is Hartnell w/o the stupid and all the falling. Perfect fit. - Tomahawk
You left out the part where he a better skater and More skill than Hartnell. |
