I agree that a direct Hartnell/Umberger comparison does not look good for the Flyers. However, I feel the team's overall improvement at even strength and the lessening of stupid penalties has made the Flyers a better all around team.

I am calling it a push at this point.

I agree about being a target. But Schenn did flub a couple of pucks last night. That's going to happen occasionally.

I am one of those people in the minority when it comes to Luke Schenn. I see value in the type of player that he is at +3m/year. He is a defenseman who constantly makes the other team pay the price when they enter the corners of the flyers defensive zone. He is a good shot blocker and penalty killer. He usually makes nice outlet passes and has a knack for keeping the puck in the offensive zone and getting his shot through.

He has obvious shortcomings: foot speed, overzealous stepping up in the neutral zone, etc. Somebody mentioned before, Luke Schenn's biggest problem is that we gave away JVR to get him. You can never reverse that, so why not look objectively at what he brings to your team. At his age, I would keep him over Grossmann if someone needs to be traded to sign Del Zotto next year.

Even though I really hate the way umberger is playing, I do agree with you.

Every time I see Vinny I want to punch him. And I'm sure he's a nice fellow. Just get off my ice.

Hartnell fit in nicely on that top PP. He also brought an edge to his game, I know he took stupid penalties but he brings more than Umberger IMO.
Umberger has done nothing that stands out. I was glad too see his minutes cut last night. You want to see a guy do well but he has had a hard time and we probably could not even move him..though I would love too!

He's got 10pts, but only 1G, 21PIMs. CF% barely above 50% despite 60%+ O-ZS and the best teammates that team has to offer. Ugly -7, although it's probably mostly driven by poor SV% behind him.

I think his days as a top-6 winger are near over. Just a matter of time now.

That is how i feel -- the hands are there, and the instincts are there. I just don't think he can get to spots against Top 4 defensemen anymore, especially at even strength

They just have a lot of money tied up in guys who aren't the ones carrying the team.

I personally don't miss Hartsy at all... since it means a clear path to L1 for Raffl/Simmer/Schenn/etc.

i don't miss him either. it would be nice if umberger would perform like anything other than a complete plug - really disappointing.
