I forget who it was, but someone said it looked like a separated shoulder
Nothing concrete though. |

Some odd things in the highlights tonight: Upshall and Seguin both had hat tricks in losing efforts, Josi and Weber ended up in a 2-on-1 rush in Nashville, and Kucherov tried the Forsberg move against a goalie named Forsberg in a penalty shot |

I can't respond to that due to the crazy amount of lines in it

Also, on a side note, does this remind you of Al Troutwig at all?

I'm not even sure it's effort, he just looks like he's washed up - Jsaquella
I agree that it may just be that he is washed up. RJ has always been know as a very hard worker but he seems to be getting outworked. Hartnell being traded may have shook the team up and given more opportunities for the young guys but we lost that trade big time. |

Yeah I feel like we could have at least made a deal with a team that was just draft pick (s) or even eat some of his salary in some scenario other than swapping him with a player such as RJ. But maybe it was a thank you and make up trade for us winning on the carter trade with getting Jake and Coats |

So, because I couldn't sleep last night, I took some time and looked at all the teams in the league, just real basic stuff like production, ice time, roster ages/composition. (Yep, I'm a nerd.)
What I'm going to say might sound a little weird, because the Flyers' roster has flaws. We know them. And yeah, I watched the third period last night.
But man, there are plenty of teams who are worse off than the Flyers are, and more importantly, their futures are even cloudier -- while the Flyers' short- and intermediate terms are brighter than they appear at times.
They've got a couple of ugly contracts for some veterans, and the defense isn't always sexy. But the age of this roster, based on expectation of production, is just about right -- and if the prospects develop properly, a window is opening. Hell, looking around the league, it might be more open than we think RIGHT NOW.
That doesn't mean the Flyers need to do anything stupid. And I'm already on record as saying I think this team should make the playoffs.
But I'm telling you guys: If they do make it, if they do see consistency from B. Schenn and Couturier...I will not be surprised in the slightest if they go deep in the playoffs. Totally serious. Because if you think the Flyers have flaws...there are plenty of other teams who REALLY have issues.
This franchise can piss you off like no other, and they still have the worst effing luck you can imagine, at times.
But they're better than they look sometimes, and they're better than people might realize, relative to the competition.

There are a lot of teams that are worse off than the Flyers. No question. They're either going to be a playoff team or just miss them. They are not a Buffalo or Carolina.
Trouble is, they're not a Chicago or LA, either. But they have the talent to be a playoff team. I've felt, since the summer, their playoff chances would depend on them playing well and other teams in the division not doing so well.
So far, that has happened. The rest of the division has been around .500, outside of the Pens, and the Flyers have done a good job keeping pace despite a very rough schedule.
I definitely feel better about them and their chances after the first 14 games than I did on opening night. |

You know what? Don't laugh, but I think Chicago is in a far more precarious position than people think.
They should've bought out Marian Hossa when they had the chance. That contract, as well as the Toews/Kane extensions...wow.
Hossa's looking like his decline has begun, and you have to wonder with all the mileage on his body and punishment he's taken.
Keith and Seabrook hold that defense together. But after the Kane and Toews extensions kick in...Oduya's unrestricted next season.
I think the Blackhawks are in for a tougher time than people think.

The play of MDZ and Schultz along with the way B Schenn has upped his game has me much more optimistic about making the playoffs than I was a few weeks ago. |

Bill,
Shultz has turned out to be a bit of a surprise. CC played well the other night. It seemed to me Cobie was only at about 80% on a 3rd pairing last night. These guys were actually playing fairly well without him. Sometimes it seems as though chemistry overcomes skill. The miscellanoeous parts bin that we dug Nick and CC out of seems to have paid off. Besides Luke's injury, could this make Cobie more expendable to p/u a winger at the TDL? |

They can move some players likes Sharp or Seabrook for very good prospects and picks. It would free up cap space while replenishing their system. They have Tervainen who will be a top 6 forward soon as well. Guys like Shaw and Saad are third liners, but are capable of playing in the top 6 too.
They have a #1 dman, #1 center and #1 winger. They just need to figure out ways to fill in around those guys and they should be fine.
The Hawks have done things right. They just keep replenishing the farm system and it allows them to move on from good veteran players without missing a beat.
Also, Hossa will be fine. His numbers aren't great right now, but they will regress to the mean soon. His shooting percentage is well below his usual and his goalies save percentage is pretty low as well. He's still a very productive player. |

I guess I'm going to need to see them do it -- that transition is always harder than it sounds. Teravainen's a suspect until he makes it, and yes, you can move Sharp and Seabrook...but are you sure you are getting their production back?
I think building around those monstrous contracts is going to take a toll as soon as next season. |
