Sam Carchidi suggests the Flyers could get a top 9 forward for Coburn. - Jsaquella

I get that but those two are on minor league deals. not real prospects per se. And I agree about the lack of goaltending depth. I was surprised they didn't draft one in the last draft and only 2 on the last 5. - nastyflyergirl
Aside from future depth, What bothers me most is the guy who signed the minor league goalies is a former goalie.
If you are only going to support the affiliate with 2 D and 2 forwards and both the goalies, do a better job in the net. Even the Caps did a better job with the goalies which is really troubling.

Sam Carchidi isn't qualified to cover mites on ice, let alone the NHL.
Between him, TP and Seravaccuum, all I can say is thank god for Bill! |

Both the goalies are on assignment from the Flyers/Phantoms. Connor Knapp is not terrible like the other guy. Oulette is a sieve some nights.
There are a few guys on 2 way AHL-ECHL deals like Brett Flemming, Maxim LaMarche, Austin Fyten and some others. There are NO quality prospects in the ECHL. I can remember Ruslan Fedotenko and Todd Fedoruk both playing in the E one year in Trenton. I dont think there is anyone there that has an AHL future to be honest beyond the 2 way deal guys there now.
You have to understand many NHL goalies came through that team with prior affiliates.
Jonathan Quick, James Reimer and Ben Scrivens and a few guys that are with the Caps system. Not a bad group of graduates and it really underscores how much of nothing that the Flyers have in goalies beyond Stolarz. He is the ONLY prospect at that position edit---playing in any pro level - Steelmanpa
not pro, but what about that madsen kid in college?
they gave up on sunshine, too, but he hasn't cracked the lineup in vancouver despite them dumping lu and the ginger.
i dunno, how many legit pro prospects can a team have at that position? juniors/college/europe have to be part of the process. |

The injuries suck and will now give a chance to another prospect to step up and make get a shot at the NHL roster sooner.

Why does everyone want to trade Coburn so badly? - PhillySportsGuy
I think Coburn can skate and eat minutes but not much more. He's a solid player, but he can be maddeningly inconsistent. He has this beast mode where he's confident skating in all zones, physical and a little mean...usually, this is when he ends up having a decidedly positive impact on the game and you're like "yeah! f-n-a Coby, it's about time!" But alas, this is usually just a short lived glimpse...a tease, showing you just enough to be able to see you're missing later when he regresses back to being a placeholder who can eat minutes playing average and sometimes mediocre hockey.
I remember when Coburn got to Philly and his first full season he put up 36 points and seemed like a guy who was going to be a very good two way player for years to come. I'm sure many here recall how he used to unload a lethal one timer from the top of the circle on the PP. Somehow, instead of his offensive game further developing it has pretty much regressed. Is this due to coaching and the system? Perhaps being told to be defensive minded over and over, and not getting PP time? Or is it his own doing? Whatever it is/was, without that offensive element, his value is lower...ok, so you look to the defensive side of his game for his worth...he can eat minutes and play ok, but he's rarely an impact player. When he's fully engaged, in "Kobe Beast" (sorry) mode, he brings the kinds of things to the ice that have more impact and raise his value, but unfortunately we don't see that mode often enough to fully justify his salary imo.
I wouldn't be against trading Coby if someone wanted him bad enough and was willing to pay a good price. I think the play of the team without him is some evidence they can probably live without him longer term.

the flyers have climbed into 3rd in the division. if they had won those 2 games in florida, they'd be 1 point back of pittsburgh.
still, it's refreshing to see them be competitive, for the most part, despite all the injuries to the defense, the decline of umberger, and uneven play of some of several of the forwards.
if they keep it up, i might be forced to road trip to phx and denver at the end of december. |

I missed the game last night and i'm about to watch the condensed version. Saw the Mackinnon hit, thanks Bill. Roy is an idiot to flip out over that hit. |

he apparently was flipping out over the hit, but rather the call was made by the far linesman, not the closest one.
I don't know why though. What's the difference? |

Maybe so, but the end result is the same regardless of the logic.

Just watched the condensed game. Schenn is really looking like he's waking up and settling into his role on the team. The Iginla fight was hard to watch though |

Schenn has added a great element to the line with Coots and Read. Right now there are three lines that are humming. Now if VDV-LeCavalier-Umberger could do something. |
