yep. and not to start up the pot with the respective sides again, but i dont think Gus was really afforded that chance with the flyers.

i am so glad despres is getting it now.

He wasn't. Gustafsson had his good points and bad. I think he played well enough overall that they should have given him more opportunity, but I definitely saw the flip side of the coin.

im glad DB is gone before he could jerk around the crop of young defenders currently in the AHL.

I was never a fan of Bylsma. Never thought that highly of him as a coach.

Josh Morrissey and Travis Sanheim the top defensive pairing in the WHL Super Series... might see that at the world junior tourney too.

They've looked very solid together.

its hard to argue. he had a lot of flaws. although i do think he would be good to take a team that really isnt very good and take them to respectability. he had tremendous success when the pens stars were out.

however, i want him no where near orchestrating a powerplay or dealing with my young players. and theyre two pretty important things.

Yep. He's got his strong points and weak points. Same as most average NHL coaches

You need a stretch where the goalie plays great and has luck. Guy that came closest in recent memory is Bryz, in his first season as a Flyer, had that 3 shutout streak
- Jsaquella

yeah, but bryz sucks. lt was all luck and his team playing amazingly tight d in front of him.

Yeah, HOFer Bill Durnan had the record before Boucher, and before him it was Frankie "Mr Zero" Brimsek
- Jsaquella

bill durnan had the advantage of playing with double mitt/blockers and switching the stick depending on what side of the ice the puck was. ambidextrous. pretty cool.

hockeybuzz is really starting to annoy me with these auto-play ads. Particularly the one of the cello or whatever classical instrument it is that makes me feel like I'm eating cheese at a wine vineyard in France with Bellemare.

yeah. i could imagine him with pouliot when he eventually gets his cup of coffee.

guy would be selling peanuts after the first time he brought in a puck on an offsides.

He does look like one of the slower guys on the ice.

He definitely looks quicker than last year, but last year he looked awful. So an incremental improvement from awful isn't exactly good.

That's why I suggest getting him on the ice with a couple guys that have speed and can move the puck. Let him be a shooter on a line with Bellemare and Akeson. Get Umberger and VandeVelde far away from him.

- Jsaquella

right. i don't really care if he's improved from last season. that's pretty meaningless if he's still slow. the comparison is completely irrelevant.

has been better? sure. he's still got issues at 5 on 5 and with a variety of teammates. he can put up pp points and can still absolutely crush the puck - and those are obviously valuable attributes.

He looked very good last season. But now that he's the guy, without anything resembling a competitor, he's been up and down. He's started every game, too. Might just need a break.

I thought Pete DeBoer was going to be a really great NHL head coach, but some of his decisions-handling youngsters, especially Larsson, his use of goalies for example, just have me wondering if he's not going to be the first head coach to lose his gig.

Absolutely. As much as I want a good 4th line, you cant have a line of Bellemare-Rinaldo-Akeson heavily outperforming a Lecavalier line. Might as well take advantage of his strengths and try to mitigate the weaknesses.

No matter what, there's going to be a line that gets them creamed, at least until Raffl returns. Might as well saddle Rinaldo and VandeVelde with Umberger and make a line of Vinny, Frenchy and Art Ross Akeson that is potentially dangerous

The second goal was off a bad turnover, but he got beat so clean through the wickets he may as well have not moved

This eagles game though
- Giroux_Is_God

i'd like the starters to come out now, please. no need for them to be in a 38-7 slaughter in the 4th quarter. it's as dangerous as fat suit putting in mccoy in a reverse situation with under 5 to go because "he was trying to win the game". he should have been fired on the spot.

The Flyers and Devils have not made a trade since the current Flyer GM was a rookie NHLer

That how I watched Durnan.

Actually, i had a book about the history of the Stanley Cup as a kid and it had photos of him and explained his technique.

Sanheim looked good...I like the way he took the puck off the wall at the point and quickly moved it to the center lane to fire a shot on goal that resulted in the assist he had. That's smart and effective.
