I'm neither pro, or anti Mason as of now. He's not terrible like many many chronic whiners say but he's in no way consistent enough either. His flaw FOR ME is his continued letting in of soft goals here and there. That needs to be stopped to letting one in rarely |

Middle rounds probably, unless a D falls I'd probably have eyes on forwards. - ob18
As you mentioned, they can use depth in multiple places. Giving away your draft picks will do that. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Off-Day Updates, Sanheim in Super Series, Pelle - bmeltzer
Mason has had ups and downs during his times with the Flyers, but he's also been the kind of goalie that can get red hot and steal games. I don't think anyone would say he's elite, but he's put up damned good numbers as a Flyer:
77 GP, 40-24-8 record, .919 save %, 2.49 GAA 4 shutouts.
His time in Columbus shouldn't be ignored. But there was a different set of circumstances. Mason was a kid, came in had success. Maybe that made him less responsive to coaching, or resistant to working harder. Those were to the two big rumors about him as a Jacket.
It's a two way street, too. Perhaps he didn't have confidence in the Columbus coaching staff. There are documented communications issues between the goalie and the staff. The thing is, since arriving in Philly, Mason has been all the Flyers could hope for. He works his ass off. He has bought into the coaching of Reese and his changed his mental approach to the game. He seems well respected and well liked by his teammates and he's shown that he's a good teammate-for instance, skating over to the bench last season when Giroux's goal drought ended and congratulating him.
Mason might not be elite. But he is-and has been- a damned good goalie for the Flyers. |

Even your opinion is more fair than some of the stuff you read about Mason. |

Maybe in the second. We could use a forward this season everything being equal.
Stolarz has been getting the short end of the stick in Allentown. I think he's played well in the two games I've seen him. - mayorofangrytown
I think he's played pretty well too considering these are his first professional games. Zepp has been good as well. |

As others have said, it's nice to have a no drama tandem that gives consistently solid play. |

Akeson could hang in the top 9 and should be there in place of Umby imo...no slight on PEB who has been quite good. - exlund
I think Akeson has to be in the top 9 at the moment. There's no other viable offensive option to play with Vinny without breaking up the 17/28/93 and 10/14/24. |

I'm just glad the Flyers didn't look at last season and say "Quick and Lundqvist played in the Cup. Clearly we need one of the best goalies in hockey or we have no chance. Time to blow it up and sign RYAN MILLER!" |

Mason has a .920 SV% in all his games as a Flyer, but there's a large contingent in the media who desperately want him to revert to how he was behind an awful Columbus team in his early 20s. The time when most goalies get to work on their game in the AHL. - Feanor

I wish the lesson had been, "Rangers and Kings played in the Cup. Clearly we need a strong veteran, progressive, innovative hockey coach. Time to fire Berube."
