No. Last season he was 27th and 25th. We can keep going backwards if you'd like but it's only going to get worse. - mayorofangrytown
His .917 was good enough to be 21st in save percentage last season amongst qualified starters. Which was a very solid performance given the way the team played in front of him. Emery playing behind the same defense was only at .903.

A number of the guys ahead of Mason were backups who faced a far smaller workload. When you have to start 3/4 of the games, it's a lot harder to keep those numbers up. Just ask Cory Schneider. |

to me Mason is like Boosch - vejim
I think he's better than Boosh. He's capable of stealing games. Boosh was more just a steady guy who wasn't great, but didn't allow the back breaker. |

No. (frank)ing cardinals defense and their two late game defensive touchdowns. - PhillySportsGuy
ah yeah. my quarterback was carson palmer so that game can (frank) off as well.
then lynch and nelson had a field day.
i hate the fact that any time i own a running back, the team loves to get all cute and fancy around the goalline.
but when i go against a back, its straight ground and pound it in baby. |

Mason is fine. He isn't the problem, nor has he ever been a problem since he arrived here. He has let up two BORDERLINE soft goals all season in my opinion. And one of those was a 2 on 1.
He makes the saves he needs to make, and has bailed out the team many more times than the soft goals he has let in.
Goaltending is the least of this teams worries. |

I can still win, but it's unlikely. Olsen would need to be awful tonight. |

I don't see it as a fair comparison between a goalie who started 59 games versus a goalie who started 20 games. |

Still Wayne, Colin, and Ryan, with a rotating 4th. Same show, but the vibe is different somehow. |

Of goalies who made 40 starts or more since the beginning of last year, Mason is 12th of 30 goalies.
He's 18th when only factoring in 5v5 save%. - PhillySportsGuy
He was 5th last season in sv% of goalies with 60 or more starts.
I think I looked at this completely wrong now. He's like, top 5 and sh!t. |

He's 32nd in GAA and 21st in SV%.
Do we really want to argue adequate? - mayorofangrytown
Henrik Lundqvist had a stretch of 7 consecutive starts last season where posted a 3.77 GAA with a SV% of 85.9. That would have put him 67th in both categories. So unless you consider him inadequate, maybe we should wait until Mason plays more than a handful of games to judge him. |
