Henrik Lundqvist had a stretch of 7 consecutive starts last season where posted a 3.77 GAA with a SV% of 85.9. That would have put him 67th in both categories. So unless you consider him inadequate, maybe we should wait until Mason plays more than a handful of games to judge him. - jmatchett383

wasn't Mike Eruzione playing minor league hockey when selected for team USA in 1980? I mean, its not major pro but its still pro hockey - nastyflyergirl
As far as I know, your amateur status is gone once you get paid, which is why Canada always had issues since most of their players were in the CHL, which pays them (minimally). |

Absolutely. I can find a stat to tell you that Martin Houle is the best goalie ever. Based on 1 single shot, but still, it will work. |

Those are the best, especially Ryan's back and forth with the guy. |

So Brayden Schenn had a heck of a game the other night... and is currently on pace for 60 points this season.

Of goalies who made 40 starts or more since the beginning of last year, Mason is 12th of 30 goalies.
He's 18th when only factoring in 5v5 save%. - PhillySportsGuy
He's not upper-echelon, but he is firmly above-average. That's all you really need, and all they're really paying for. |

If MAF is making $5.75M per for 4 more years, I'm fine with Mason's deal. |

Never once did I call him inadequate. I find him quite adequate. I even said I was glad he was adequate. I'm happy after 25 or so years to have an adequate goaltender and a good backup.
I'm not happy that every Dman on the roster and in the minors/juniors either walk with a limp, eats through a straw or can't raise his arm above his shoulder. |

to me Mason is like Boosch - vejim
I always liked Boosh, but Mason is twice the puckhandler Boosh was. Mason may be in top 5 of current league in that area. I'd also put Mason's glovehand and lateral movement in the upper one third. |

I give Berube credit for putting him with Couturier and Read, and keeping him on the top PP unit ahead of Lecavalier. I hope both he stays in both roles going forward. |

Always to the guy's back, which the crowd loved.
Not to be forgotten is the time when Ryan had to take a leak and they kept telling him to wait.

Would you otherwise say he's adequate? I'm trying to drum up some positive vibes for being adequate?
My late teens and early twenties dating profile revolved around adequate. I think it's getting an unfair shake. |

Yes, you called him adequate, and then pointed to a small sample size to judge whether or not he was better. And I showed a similar sample size to show that CSP was inadequate. The point was, let's give Mason more than a handful of games this year to judge whether or not he's adequate, inadequate, or above adequate.
"Adequate" seems wrong when you type it. |

'Adequate' relates about evenly to today's 'meh', correct?
Sounds about right (regarding your dating profile, that is). |

At the Oilers game on Tuesday, an annoying father sat in the seats behind me along with his friend and a few of his young children. He has sat there before and is one of those know-it-alls that knows nothing about the game, but insists on spewing incorrect information all game long. This game was no different...
About halfway through, his young son says "Daddy, the Flyers goalie is really good" and he barks back "no he's actually horrific, one of the worst goalies in the league. All he does is give up rebounds on every shot." My dad and I looked at each other dumbfounded. I wanted to say something because I hate to see a younger generation brought up like that, but chose not to. Instead, on every save Mason made and held on to (which was nearly every one) I made sure I said loud enough for him to hear "no rebound there!"
I feel bad for children who have to be brought up in this manner.
Edit: Some people just love to be haters. On opening night, this same guy told his son that Simmonds is "the dirtiest player in the league but since he's a Flyer we can root for him." Can't believe I almost forgot to include that. - five4fighting10

Great move by Berube. Lecavalier did not look comfortable in that slot position on the #1 unit. Much better on the off wing on the 2nd unit. |
