I would say that VLC has lost a step or two in his straight away speed. He can't blow around D men on the rush and crash the net for goals like he used to do. He also seems to get winded quicker. This is typical for an aging player. His quickness seems "OK" but he does seem to lag behind in reaction time vs. some quicker, younger players at times.

Vinny is still crafty in the offensive zone...he likes to play in the slot and cycling around the net and coming out to the right side between the goal line and the top of the right circle, but as Berube (finally) noted, he needs someone to get him the puck in those spots. He can't carry the puck with the speed he used to...maybe Akeson can help.

I agree, that he doesn't skate as well as he did in his prime. That's to be expected. He does however, skate well enough to be effective. And he is not slow. He's not fast either, he's an average skater at this point. And his overall skating and quickness is much improved from where it was last year after the back injury. That is encouraging.
Lecavalier is no longer a player who is going to be able to carry players like Umberger and Vandevelde offensively. But he can still play offensively. And he's made an obvious effort to play better away from the puck.

Maybe Akeson can help, we'll see.

this is a happy medium. Not too lofty, but not totally dumb. Not too big, not too small (that's what she said).

Which accounts to a lot of nothing. This is mindless bantering that has no real effect on our lives. At least I hope it doesn't. That would actually be pretty sad.

If you get enjoyment out of poopting on everyone's opinion constantly and blatantly calling them uninformed, then go you.

I come on here just to pass the time, then move on with my life to things that are way more enjoyable.

I personally think it's a personal choice to decide what each individual gets enjoyment out of. And not my place to judge that.

Honestly, when I posted line combos in pre-season, one of my suggestions was Akeson & Vinny. I just had Raffl on the LW, instead of Umberger. I'd put Bellemare there now and move Umberger to the 4th line....and I don't think Akeson played well vs Colorado
- Jsaquella

I've heard people say Akeson didn't play well in that game. I watched it again last night. He actually didn't have a bad game imo. He didn't do much to get noticed (offensively) with the puck but I thought he was decent in the plays in which he was involved... he was pretty good in d-zone coverage and made a good pass or two out of the defensive zone. Of course he was benched late in favor of PEB (who got put on his line), which I get trying to protect a lead, but personally, if anything, I would have brought PEB up and benched Umby, who played worse (defensively) than Akeson.

I thought that Akeson's effort and compete level was much better in the last two games then it was previously. And I think it's good that he's getting a shot on a higher line. Just proves that if you come to work, you'll get opportunities.

I don't think he played badly , just not especially well. I agree Umberger was a far bigger issue, in terms of being an effective player.
