Hockey is a game of emotion. Every player at one time or another is set off by something to the point of having had enough, and dropping the gloves. And it's alos part of having a competitive fire inside. Sucks that the kid broke his hand, but regardless of what the circumstances are, something set him off. So I don't feel it's reasonable to criticize the kid for it, just because he got hurt. It's part of the game. |

From what has been written about it, and rewatching the play/fight, he seems to be upset at a check he took. Doesn't look like a dirty hit or cheap play. I don't see much reason for him to fight for the hit he took:
The other kid barely clipped him, looks like. - Jsaquella
Just on it's own....that looked pretty tame and it looks like McDavid let his emotions get the better of him.
Nothing wrong with playing with emotion as long as you channel it productively. This was not that time. |

What we can't learn from that video, is what's being said, McDavid turned around to confront the player, and they traded cross checks, and the other kid dropped his gloves first to fight. At that point, McDavid has to defend himself. |

Very true.....that's why I said "just on it's own". If there's more data, it's not in that video. |

See that explains it! Thank goodness nothing was said about his Sister. Who knows what would've happened then. |
