Was talking less about the shot and more about the fact that the little bugger kept going with Wideman leaning on him for about 80 feet.

- BINGO!

Wideman... its a good thing he occasionally scores because as a defenseman...

On Sven, I think its really up to Sven at this point. You play yourself onto to the big club. Thrive in the A and give the team NO reason not to call you up. We all make assumptions about his head space but none of us know. He isn't giving the team a reason to keep him with the big club but what happens if he's sent down (again). I'm sure the "keep working on your defensive game" speech is wearing thin. He needs to THRIVE in the A not just blend in. If not, maybe it is time. I think this is honestly his last chance to impress Flames coaching and brass.

Bollig is meh, I expect him to run everyone over and stir poop but he's trying to play a skilled game, which he doesn't have. Enggeland has been ok but I'd rather have Smid partnered with Wotherspoon or Sieloff... no one will take that contract and he does help us meet the cap (floor).

As for Seteguchi, buh bye... He and Borque can go play in the KHL with Cheechoo...

Did you guys see the story on Colbourne and the veterans program? Very cool!!!

Why on Gods green Earth would we want that piece of poop? Why the (frank) did you sign 2 more tough guys to begin with?

Makes sense, team is playing great hockey, that probably was not expected by management either, hence the loading up on face punchers.

Hey guys, that Peter Labardious or whomever the (frank) that does color on the radio....is that guy for real? He's gotta be the worst guy in the business the way he's. Swinging off Giordanos junk like that.

Hate Loubo's colour commentary, and listening to him in general on the radio. Worst voice, agrees with everything anyone says and can't see beyond the Flames jersey to see the player beneath it...

In general, I think commentary (radio or tv) would be better if it was non-biased, it drives me nuts listening to homer opinions, but it also drives me nuts when an announcer can't even pronounce a name correctly - Yes, NHL 15, Emrick and Olczyk, I am talking about you.

I just don't get how two people can watch the same player play and come to such markedly different conclusions. After watching Chris Butler's play with the puck (and I'll note that I'm completely able to see the good things that Butler brought to the team in his own end which often went overlooked), and after watching Shane O'Brien last season, Deryk Engelland is a really capable third-pairing defenceman. No, he isn't as good as our top-4 defencemen. No, he isn't going to be able to dominate a shift against the other team's top-6. But I'm not worried about having Engelland on the ice. He's a better skater than I was expecting, and he makes much stronger and smarter plays with the puck than our third-pairing guys of previous years. His only real flaws are a lack of speed and natural talent. I just don't understand what you guys expect out of the guy.

Engelland reminds me a lot of Rhett Warrener
Get the puck, fire it off the glass and out, off the glass and out, off the glass and out...
Is that awful to have in your 3rd pairing? Probably not, but if more dynamic players are able to inserted into the lineup in his place (don't know that that is the case in CGY right now), that's not a bad thing either.

I agree with Colin that Engelland and Smid aren't the solution on that 3rd pairing, but I don't think anyone's advocating anything drastic. Personally I have no interest in any trades, unless it's to move veterans on expiring contracts for more youth (especially on defense).

If BT could swing something along the lines of Glencross for Gormley, I'd be ok with that, but for now I just want to see how our kids can do. Granlund, Jooris, and Byron have all shown that they're perfectly capable of playing at this level. I'd like to see if the same is true with Wotherspoon and Sieloff. I think we might be pleasantly surprised.

They way things have been going, it would probably have to be GlenX & Sven for Gormerly (& deep down, I would do that deal right now)

It's a real interesting conundrum. Come TDL, we are sitting in 7th, team has still been playing consistently well enough to keep us in that 95 point season country & potential playoffs. What do you do? This was not expected & that is why I don't get down on contracts like Engellends & Bollig. I have seen enough from Bollig when paired up with actual wingers like Jooris & Bouma to say he makes up a way more functional tougher 4th line that can actually generate scoring chances. Instead of playing the 6.0 minutes a game on the old poor slob who gets McGrats & Wesgarth as wingers, this line can easily play over 10 minutes.

I do agree the Seto experiment should be over as we get healthy bodies back. But really, who on the blue line is really really so NHL ready to man the blue line? Seiloff & Tspoon are really better logging bigger minutes where they are. The only way you are even in a position of upgrading our current blue line is we are going to have to give up pieces no one would be willing part with.I say we stay the course & be a seller come the TDL regardless where we are at in the standings.

"Derek Engelland is a disaster. I see now why he was a healthy scratch so often for the Penguins last year. He is simply not a competent hockey player. Ladislav Smid isn’t much better, but right now Smid is being forced to cover for Engelland’s mistakes and it’s actually making Smid worse than he was. Every time that Engelland is on the ice, the defensive coverage for the Flames turns into a dumpster fire."
shhhhhh no one tell OG he thinks engallend is doing well

I'm amazed that another player is making Smid play worse, usually the other way around.
