You tried to extrapolate the fact that Mike Richards plays on the PP means that he isn't a fourth-liner

I'm telling you that just because the guy is on the PP -- and Anze Kopitar missed three games, btw, which meant Richards got a few more minutes there -- doesn't mean that he's not one, because on the Kings, he is one

4th line players don't typically play on the PP. So that Richards averages more PP time then Dustin Brown and Justin Williams does, suggests that he is not a 4th line player.

So let's remove special teams icetime and just look at ES icetime. Richards is 8th among all King Forwards in ES icetime. Again that points to Richards not being a 4th line player. More icetime at ES then Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli.

Richards is a fourth line for the LA Kings. Would Richards be a fourth line player for the Toronto Maple Leafs? Interesting how 15:17 minutes per night is now considered fourth line minutes. Guys like Jimmy Dowd and Blair Betts were probably 10 to 12 minute guys here.

Even a bad team can have some good players. But I understand your point. But what he is basically saying is that even if Richards was a 4th line player on the Kings, which is he isn't. If the quality of the roster should be taken into account for where a player plays on a bad team. Shouldn't it also be taken into account for where a player plays on a top team? And on a team that has won the Cup twice in the last 3 seasons?

Sure it made sense. Lecavalier was moved to the 4th line because of an injury. It didn't make Lecavalier a 4th line player. It's an outlier. 4th line players normally don't have the skill set to play on the PP.


Let's look at the other side of the street. On how may good teams would Raffl be a top line LW?
